What cars share our BCM?
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:17:37 PM »
I know that the Sky and Solstice have the same BCM (body control module) but what other GM cars share the same hardware?

There is a guy on several of the other GM forums that programs BCMs doing things like auto window roll down with a push of the key fob button. I want to get as much info as I can before I approach him to see what he could do for our cars.
Just trying to do my part...

I believe its us and the cobalt/g5.

See if he can program for not needing resistors for led lighting. I know you can do it for the trucks.

Yeah we should make a list of what we would like to see if it's possible. i don't know if this guy would need the car or could just do it from the BCM. I don't even know at this point where he lives. Looks as though our BCM also fits the HHR as well.

The wish list would be:

-not needing resistors for led lighting
-auto window roll down with a push of the key fob
-auto window roll up with a push of the key fob
-temperature readout on the Solstice DIC

You can't do the windows roll-up/down since they're not controlled by the BCM.  I'd very much doubt you can do the resistor thing either - haven't checked the wiring there, but I don't think they are connected (everything is relay-controlled).

So:
 - Maybe the temp readout could be done.
 - Delay the door auto-lock until >15mph would be great (I hate backing my car out of the garage and then having to unlock the doors again for a passenger to get in!)
 - Restore power to the windows/accessories for a period after the trunk is opened (so you can put them down/up when opening/closing the roof without the key in the ignition)

For exterior temp readout in the DIC on a Solstice, you'll need the sensor and pins to the proper terminals on the BCM connector (plus wiring, of course).  All of this before you think of flashing the BCM to display the temp on the DIC.

The pins are 67 and 70 on connector C1 as it is in SKY's

Fog Lights default to on
Oh please, PLEASE, No!  I hate seeing the supposedly hip (?) people that go around with their foglights on all the time.  Blinding oncoming traffic - esp. when the roads are wet.  I know some make the argument that it "helps to see the road ahead - especially at the sides".  WTF are you doing looking directly in front of your car - or to the sides - when you're driving?  Foglights are NOT driving lights.  They are basically useless to the driver - even in fog.  Sorry </rant>

The Solstice does (at least seem to) have the exterior sensor already.  My OBD UltraGauge display ambient temps just fine (and apparently reasonably accurately too).  Ignore the fact that engine and ambient are the same here - car parked in the garage, engine off :

It's not worth doing for just the outside temp and yeah I had conveniently forgotten that the BCM doesn't control the windows. This video of a hacked Camaro BCM had me all

We'll see what he comes back with, I emailed him last night. Not getting my hopes up.

Don't give up yet Bob!  These (especially as the last one would be SO useful) should be possible...

I rented a Ford Montigo in England in 2003 I believe.  You hit the unlock once the doors unlocked, you hit it twice the windows (all four) came down.  Hit the lock once, doors locked, hit it twice all the windows went up.

That being said, you had to use the key to unlock the hood, and the keyhole was hidden.  Want to guess where?

Yeah, my 2001 Audi A6 had a 'hidden' feature (you had to get the equiv of a TechII to enable it) where if you pressed and held the lock button it would drop or raise all 4 windows (and close the sunroof).  Nothing new to see here.

But, still can't do it on the Sol/Sky :)

Yep, after putting in an hid kit, the stock halogen projectors fire more light out to the sides so there really isnt any need for foglights, so I took mine off the car. But around here, we have people who drive around with their highbeams on more than anything. Thats worse than foglights. I wish there was a factory feature hooked to the light sensor that doesnt allow the high beams to be on during daylight.

Disable bulb-out hyperflash for LEDs.

Basically the whole "not needing the resistors" thing

Add Control for Opel Tail Lights Light out hyperflash disable should take care of this also

Add Control for Opel Rear Fog Light Thats just an add-on fog switch. Our cars arent wired for it to begin with so youd have to run wires to the back regardless if anything to control it is turned on in the bcm

But Im really praying for the no load resistors to be needed. Using those defeats the whole purpose of led lighting aside from looking sweet.

Its all logic inside the bcm. The only relays in the system are for the parking lights. Which you dont need a resistor for.

Prolly lots of neat stuff hidden in the BCM.
I think someone once told me that certain trouble codes are stored in the BCM VIN mismatch maybe as well as TMPS function?

Yep. Right.  Plus when I saw the "remove need for resistors with LEDs", I wasn't thinking about the hyperflash issue, I was thinking the v-drop resistors in series with the LEDs.  Sorry.
