Problems with kit turbo ddmworks and missfires
« on: October 21, 2012, 05:10:49 PM »
Hello from Spain, first... sorry for my english :(

I have Opel GT, with this in the engine part:

Intake Dejon.
Pipes Dejon.
Intercooler Dejon.
3" Catless solo-perfomance.
Magnaflow 3"

Then i bought a kit turbo ddm works GT2871, i ask about if i need anything more. But DDM say NO.

When i put the kit turbo, runs similar with a identical car with k04 with tune  :poke:
Then... DDM recomended put 3 bar sensor...... new sparkplugs... i put all parts but the cars i don,t think that have more than 350hp at the crank  :( in a 30 to 120 mph i only put 20meters betwen a similar car with k04, i have hard missfires in 6.000 to 7.200 rpm but nobody know whats happend, i can,t pass up to 6.700 rpm because the missfires are very very hard i was in this situation two months ago and i am tired, anybody have this kit turbo? what about this missfires?

Two days ago i have 5th injector, could be find a little solution about put 5th injector?

Thank you very much, and sorry for my english.

Greetings from Spain

Who tuned the car for you?.
It would be interested to see how much you would beat him/her in a 1/4 mile drag race.
20 meters to me sounds OK. A KO4 with a tune can put out close to 300 to the wheels.
Your setup should be closer to the 400 to the crank or flywheel.

Stock clutch cannot take much more power than 350whp w.o being destroyed.

Also I would go back to the tuner that tuned your car. Many people have had success with the 2871 upgrade. If you are having issues, its due to your setup/tune, not the turbo.

DDM is doing the tune, if i need a better clunch is a very little problem, i,ll buy.

Who do the tunes better for GT2871?? Could be better if i put the last sparkplugs that Perfomance Autowercks have?

How many miles are on the car?  Is it possible you have Carbon buildup?
That is an issue with a lot of Direct injection cars including ours.

The Spark Plugs and the Gap of the Plugs is also very finicky with our cars and can cause misfires.

I ran into issues with NGKs and run the stock AC Delco 41-108s.
on 93 octane I was ok with the stock gap of .028

I removed my dejon Intake on my 2871 setup because it was causing the MAF reading to be all over the place.  It looks like a Sine wave having a seizure.

The GMPP intake or K&N Typhoon both seem to have the MAF in a really good place for smooth airflow readings.

Im guessing its airflow problems. Put stock intake back in and retune.
Make the right choices now

my friend i think you have only one problem and that is the misfires, which u should check and resolve.
about performance, from the feedback i have from another guy using the GT2871, i think u are doing good performance.
i understand you were expecting more, but 20 meters difference compared to a stcok turbo lnf in a "race" like this sounds reasonable.
if you want seriously more power, i think you should try a bigger turbo

Did you try sending Dave (DDM) a pm? Since it's his kit & tune he will probably know whats wrong or help you find the issue.

I had a lot of misfires when I first put my 2871 on. You should scan it and send it to DDM to look at and retune.

I also agree with info above.  I would go back to stock intake it will help Dave tune.  Do you have any codes other than misfire.  Is it for a particular cylinder or all.  If just one cylinder you can check plug and coil.  If all cylinders  I would also check plugs and gap.  Use stock plugs and consult Dave on the gap.  I bet stock gap is fine.  It is on mine.  Once you have completed the above steps it should help Dave troubleshoot for you.

I really think going back to stock intake and checking plugs will help based on limited info.  Also, review the dyno chart for 2871 and you can see power comes on a little later in the rpm than the K04.  So, it may take getting to the mid range rpm to make gains on tuned K04.

If Dave can't help you tuning remotely, we can do that but I suggest you work with Dave first.  Also, if you really want to use your Dejon intake we can probably tune it without using MAF but not sure of the reason unless you like the looks of it.

I was running the GT2871 turbo kit from DDM, with DDM's intake and had no misfires.  I was recommended to stay with the stock plugs, so we just put new stock spec plugs in and all was well.  Diamoney owns my car now, so maybe shoot him a PM and see if he has the same issue.  I doubt it though, because I never had those issues, and DDM did the tuning with their ram-air intake.

I too got the DDM stage ll turbo with BOV, and the Trifecta tune, as well as the SPEC stage ll clutch. There were some initial tune issues, but DDM/Trifecta worked closely with the mechanic, and all was dialed in within a couple days. I now hit 24 psi regularly in all five gears, something I was never able to do with the Hahn tune.

One thing though: Top end is gonna be just marginally more than stock. All the fun is in the mid range. And boy is it fun!  :tool:
