I can tell you for a fact Chris told me over the phone that he new of ONLY 1 failure and it was on the race engine.
I talked to him about a month ago.
By the way all the builds were done by request and not in a mass production.
I am hoping Chris takes the time to answer all this post about "countless" failures with this exhaust manifold.

John those were his stock rods to my understanding.
I think he is using the not blown comment since there was no hole in engine and it was still functioning albeit in very need to be rebuild.

Which is a pretty meaningless distinction.  I have finished races (heck, I've won races) with a blown engine - the main bearings had turned and were spinning, machining their way into the saddles. Oil pressure dropped to about half and stabilized. I had 2 laps to go. I figured the engine was scrap anyway so I just ran for it and finished. That engine was certainly 'blown' although nothing was sticking out of the block.

I'm surprised that he went with stock rods when going for that much power - a new set of rods is one of the first things I'd have ordered, along with the forged piston set.

Agreed.  I read stock rods.

Over zealous tune gets em every time.  A little too much boost.  A little too much power...something breaks, bends, etc...bad shit happens.

*edit...ok...call it the thirst for a little more power.  What is the limit and how long can we play with that before something goes?

I figured each one was manufactured on demand and not on a run.

I can't imagine Dave not selling something because of one failure.  I can't imagine him making up failures unless he just didn't want to do business with the guy?, but then why post it on an open forum...that makes no sense, and I can't imagine Dave didn't tell Chris about the failures.

And I don't doubt you either LV.  Like I said...something is messed up.  I hope he gets on here to as I'm curious.

You Sir, have an excellent point.  He certainly had to know the limits of the stock rods right??  Although they did hold up for a few years if I read the earlier posts correctly.

Sorry Bill, I believe he originally said he was keeping everything stock (engine wise) because he was not going to over boost it.
He mentioned very early on his posts (the BB) it was going to be around 400 HP.
I know it is a little meaningless(not blown) if you have any major mechanical problems with an engine, but at least he gave the full information as to what went wrong. In my mind that is more important than what the definition of engine blown means. At least I understood by his explanation it had to be rebuild.
I wish people would take the time to think before they start typing, this way we would not have these posts that derail a good topic.
Now the thread is close (although temporarily I hope) and no further information on the manifold can be had.
If Chris (manifold company person) tries to respond, he will not be able to find the link to the close thread.

The rods actually stood up quite well then, if he got anywhere near the output he says he did.  I have seen 400 as the supposed maximum you can get by on with stock innards, with any degree of confidence..

Nikki...I don't think they want to ban you at all.  That's not how I read it.

Sky888 conveniently edited his post to take his nastiness, name calling and threatening to have me banned out. I should have quoted him.

In regards to the manifold and why Werks is not selling them anymore *from what I've been told* it was not due to the manifolds quality or because of any failures. I will NOT put out anything I've heard as it is completely second hand and I'm not one for spreading rumors.

I missed that stuff.

My Avatar and signature are results of GMT's posts
He called us lemmings so I had to snag a funny Far Side Pic
and
He stated the 2871 is only good for picking up PrepH at the Pharmacy.

I was looking on the Solstice forum to verify whether the pistons and Rods were stock and GMT has a post in the quick post area.
It's all B.S.
He acts like other people started the argument.

I really wish the other thread was still readable. Without, it does not show that GMT was the instigator starting on Page 2.

Well why the hell did he do that? You didn't deserve that! You were pretty damn clear with your intent and there is nothing wrong with that.  Too much stirred up in here lately.

Good move on your part. I'm hoping both Dave and the manufacturer come back to provide more info.

Nastiness?

I told u to stop posting gmtech's posts. He is banned for a reason.

I removed my nastiness when I realized you were Nikki on FB. I apologize if I u think I was nasty.

Even if you're just a FB friend, I respect u.

Look this is my comment.
You all know there is bad feelings between you guys.
Why not take the high road and let it go. You all know is not going to change your mind or his.
You know the GT2871 is serving you an others well, why engage on a discussion that is not going to go any where.
As far as the manifold let the manufacturer come in and give his input.
I posted what he told me, if it is not true then, if he post you have the chance to ask questions.

I don't think GMT has been banned, usually if you are banned it says so on your avatar.   The other thread was pulled for review by the monitors, lot of name calling going on.  I think it will come back minus the BS.  While those threads are fun to read they are counter productive and not one sided.

Anyone know what's the difference between Werks and DDM v8 installs?

Advantages and disadvantages?

Werks has a wide range of V8s. DDM also have these options?

I didn't even see the other thread that resulted in GMT getting banned.  It's a shame, as it seems like he has a lot of knowledge to offer and share.  Not second-guessing the moderators, here, and I get that you don't bash the vendors that sponsor this site.

From what I gather, it went down like these things often do.  Someone didn't respect the opinions of someone else and things escalated from there.

So to bring this back full circle, I respect the opinions of those who believe a modded LNF is the only way to go.  It's a respectable route, and the engine can put up some impressive numbers.  At the same time I ask that you respect the opinion of those that believe a V8 is the way to go.  Even if you think it's old-fashioned and hard-headed, you've gotta appreciate a well-executed V8 transplant...  even if you believe the guy doing the work is a jerk.  It's easy to misjudge folks based only on on-line interactions.  I'd venture to guess that most folks have a completely different personality face-to-face.

It really wasn't a difference of opinions, a vendor stated they no longer carried a product due to failures and someone took offense.

This isn't really the place to rehash things as it won't really help matters.  The mods probably should consider cleaning up this thread too since it's so far off topic now.

You might as throw Wades in too, plus how's about V8 Archie.  I believe he did his own personal Solstice and was considering getting into V8 conversions.  Has any vendor figured out the V8 cruise issue to date?

There is one year that Wade cannot get the cruise to work.  Not sure which one.  At least that is what I remember from talking to him last year.  Maybe one of the others who where there can add to this.

No one has talked bad or insulted anyone on this thread. I like all engines the issue is the V8 in a KAPPA as been the holy grail.
I have numerous times said if you want a V8 in your KAPPA, is your money and what you as an owner can do is your own business.
Just do not place the V8 on this platform as the meanest etc etc etc.......
It is just another conversion into the KAPPA platform.
The LNF as well as the new iterations of these 4 cylinders, can perform extremely well on the platforms they were designed to shine on.

On another note is a shame the other thread had to be close and a member banned.
I understand he should have chosen his words better when posting, not only about our Vendors but other members.
However I can tell in the case of the manifold and the company there are two sides to the story.
The only one that can say it, is Chris the representative for his company and a rebuttal by WERKS for his side of the story.
Is time to move on, since we will probably never know what took place.
I just hope for everyone sake, folks here will wish in the future, they would have let this one go...............
