Missing under hard acceleration
« on: May 28, 2013, 09:36:16 PM »
Background.
All fine and dandy til about 2 weeks ago when one of the charge tube clamps slips off. I replace, tighten and all is good for about a day. Then I discover a miss under hard acceleration. If I continue to push it hard it throws a a check engine light that stays on and while it flashes for 10 seconds or so it has no power. Scan it and its a mis in cyl 3. I change plugs tonight and guess what? Same issue.

Case of beer at the next MD Mod Meet to the one who helps me solve and correct. See my first attemp at data logging below.

Revision.

Swap coil with another cylinder and see if the misfire follows the coil from #3.

What he said.......I cant view with my config file but are you having a Misfire or is it showing KR in Cyl 3?  My guess is your seeing KR in Cyl #3 and KR and a misfire are two different things.  Also which clamp popped off the one to the TB ?

How about taking a screen shot of your Log at the point where you are seeing the problem and posting that?

I would if I could drive and look at laptop at same time.

Misfire but I have a feeling it's caused by ECM governing something. Don't think it's knocking as I had that issue before and you can hear it. Again after I really push it for a while without lifting it feels like it goes into limp mode for 10 seconds while engine light flashes. After engine light turns solid it goes back to normal.

Will try checking the hoses tonight when engine cools.

You already have the log file since you attached it.
Open it in scanner, then scroll from left to right and when you get to the time that shows the issue you are having, take a print screen, save to jpg and attach

Problem is I don't know where the issue takes place on the log. It's not like its synced with the engine audio. Need someone local that can ride along. I have a wife afraid to look at the car, a 3 year old that wants to drive it and a 6 month old that drools on it. My money is on my 3 year old.

looks like you have a very basic config file.  Do me a favor.   Open the attached config in HPT scanner, then go for a drive for at least 10 minutes. save the data and upload the HPL file

This config looks at all 4 cylinders for misfires

I will do you a favor then. Want me to force it to miss or just drive normally?

Run it normally or run it hard so it acts up? ~14psi

Run it to misfire so we can get a log of the behavior

Here is my ride home from work today using elff's config file. Did it enough to have it throw code again (engine light flashes for 10 seconds). :(

Fingers crossed it's a cheap fix.  :2c:

Most of your knock is near idle.  See attached.  Not sure about what to do.  Did you swap coil packs like the OP said to see if the misfire moves?

If it turns out to be the coil, I purchased some spares and can sell you one for cheaper than new.

I just went through the log and
All of your misfires are on Cylinder 3

Definitely swap coils, then relog.
