Battery is dead side skirts glued how how do I remove it?
« on: July 20, 2013, 08:19:16 PM »
So I'm currently in Korea and couldn't take my car so my father has been starting in every three weeks but he went to start it today and nothing just the maps lights really dim the dummy light real dim for only a sec and some noise under the hood when he tries to turn it over. My car is a 2007 so the battery is like six years old so it's time to change it anyway. My question is since my side skirts are adhesive on due to how the body shop did it nit my first choice but I don't want to take them off if I don't have to. I was thinking pull the fuse box and maybe pull it out that way. Has anyone done it without removing the fender?

hammy221 ; The fender has about 6 screws on the top ,and there are the 5 fender well screws and there is 1 in the door jam 10mm . when all the screws are out the fender bracket has a screw up from the bottom . the bracket swings around . then disconnect battrey and replace.

I think there is a Battrey removal post & a  video

Hammy  Remove the Wheel and the fender well liner is the other way . Haven't heard of taking out the fuse Box . That may be more problem then its worth.

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to avoid removing the fender at all as I do not want to have to go though removing the side skirts on the car. So I think i might do the wheel and wheel liner option

Yeah I believe some claim that's the best way. Remove the fasteners on the rear side of the liner and after moving the liner out of the way you can remove the battery.

I agree with the above
Wheel and wheel liner is a piece of cake.
You don't have to completely remove the wheel liner.  Just enough of the bolts on the battery side to bend it out of the way.
There are 2 underneath the car, then work you way backwards until you remove all of the bolts/fasteners that connect the liner to the fender and you should be golden

Hammy221:
My battery was like yours but I wanted to wait a little longer before doing the install of a new one.
As long as I put a charge on it I could start the car, run it for a while then turn it off.
I did that for almost 6 month then I decided it was time after 6 years and 7 months to get a new one.
I am saying this incase you do not want for your Dad to try to take the wheel well off  etc.

I was gonna say the same thing as LatinVenom.  If you could still get enough charge on it to start it, then you could wait to change it.

This coming from someone with a battery that's going on 7 years and 8 months who never puts it on a charger.  So what do I know??  Not much!!
(Thinking a battery change might be a good Mod Meet item!)

If you are going to remove the wheel well, you may want replace the screws with push pins. It works wonders to prevent the mounting holes from cracking.

It sure does, I have push pins in almost every hole and no cracking at all on my liners.

Push pins like the christmas tree doohickies they use elsewhere?

Is there a fancy method for removing those without mangling them?

They are called panel clip pliers, here is a link to a set at Harbor Freight:

So did my battery replacement with out removing the fender and it was a pain in the butt but it is doable. Sorry I didn't take pictures but first I removed the front wheel then the fender. I then need to remove the fender frame work and carefully pulling it our though the wheel well. Then I could remove the Battery retaining block and wires. Pulling the battery though the wheel well wasn't much of an issue. Putting it back together was a pain as I can't stand body work and I had to realign the fender with my vert doors.

How long do the stock batteries last?  Mine looks to be the stock battery and I purchased the vehicle when it was 2yrs old so dont think the previous owner would have replaced so its 6yrs old.

Hammy221, on the new battery, hook up a float charger to the battery and skip starting it to just warm it up. I cringed at the thought of water sediment and combustion products sitting in the crankcase.

tazz, my na battery was still alive and it was 2 months shy of 8 years old when I replaced it Labor Day Weekend. A gxp/rl battery probably won't last as long. They drain them faster for some reason.

Btw, mine would sit for up to 6 weeks in the winter without starting the car. A gxp/rl would be dead if it sat that long.

Yes and no.  Gxp/rl usually yes. NA... I've heard of weird chit happening.  DIC displays weird stuff. Lights come on/off that shouldn't. Accessories act weird. You think the car has an electrical gremlin, and it does... the battery.
