Clutch issue..
« on: August 01, 2013, 02:24:00 PM »
So after searching the forum and finding no results I've decided to start this thread.

I've had something odd happen to me twice. when engaging the clutch from a complete stop, it seems to get "stuck" about halfway and the car sounds like a bunch of metal clanking together. I've turned the car off immediately  both times, put it in neutral, and started the car again and the clutch operates normally again. I've checked all my fluids and nothing seems to be leaking. this has happened twice and spread out between about 3000+ miles of driving.

the clutch does not slip and it is a factory clutch with 68k miles on it. the car is also almost completely stock with only charge pipes and Trifecta budget tune.

is anyone familiar with this problem? I was wondering if it was related to the SAC system?

ive never heard of anything like this

Can you give more details about the car? Do you know what clutch is in it? have you owned the car since it was new?

Bearing just starting to go bad?  Gears just shaking a bit and not lining up?

I've had the car for 9 months, I'm the second owner and I've driven it about 12k miles. It is the stock clutch also, I forgot to mention it is an 07 GXP.

The gear is fully engaged, the car is in the process of moving when this has happened. the pedal stops traveling as if something was stuck. The sound resembles an intensified version of clutch chatter and the car vibrates as if it was about to stall.

I've had 2 other manuals before this one and have never experienced anything like this. The first time it happened I thought it was the engine malfunctioning lol.

I'm 99% sure it something to do with clutch system just trying to figure out what is causing this.

also if the throwout bearings were bad wouldn't I experience this ever time i pressed the clutch lever?

You probably have done this, but have you checked to see if anything prevents the pedal from moving freely (carpet, any other object, etc)

There are a number of possible issues here.  Throwout bearing is hanging up because of a bad bearing; a weak clutch pressure plate; the system that remotely operates the clutch like cables, etc.

Since our clutch is hydraulic, the brake reservoir has a port on the drivers side aft, if the level is low in the reservoir, it could be starved.  Also, do you park on an angle?  I had difficulty with the coupe after parking over night where the front of the car is lower.  Seemed to be really hard to shift into gears the first 15 minutes of driving.
