Installed ddm works header and car is way to loud now
« on: October 10, 2016, 11:12:29 PM »
So I installed a ddm long tube header. Car has a stage 2 supercharger magnaflow 2.5" exhaust with no cat. Before the header was installed I loved the sound and the only difference then and now is it had the factory header with a hollowed out factory cat. My question is has anyone else experienced this and If so how did you tame it. I'm thinking installing a cat might do the trick. Any input  would be appreciated.

I had the exact same problem when I installed it. I ended up talking to Solo Performance and got a muffler that I then welded into the center tunnel area.

How much did it help

It calmed it down quite a bit. I also had a CAT. There was still a tolerable drone in the cab of the car even while cruising at a steady speed. I'm not sure how loud/ not loud your car was before the header. So, it's kinda hard to tell if you will get the same results. My exhaust was the RPi GT setup.

Why don't you just install a catalytic converter, which won't cause any power loss, dramatically improves the emissions of your car AND will act as a muffler?

Many dyno graphs/ pulls with and without CATS say otherwise.

IMO, since I myself had the stage 3 SC and the LT header, a CAT alone will not quiet down Hammy's exhaust enough. Been there. Done that.

Hell, he can come to my house and kill the yellow jackets that have a nest right next to my house.  I'm sure my neighbors won't mind...

Actually, I'm not sure we have data on the Solo high flow CAT vs. a bypass pipe.  That would be interesting.

It doesn't have to be specific to our cars. There are many examples on the internet where any CAT, hi-flow or not, is a restriction in the exhaust. Could there possibly be a hi-flow CAT that produces no discernible loss in power? Sure, but I doubt it from all the other examples I've seen thus far.

I have the Solo HF Cat and the Solo catless pipe and the catless pipe adds 3psi of boost with no change to the tune and reduces 60 to 100 times by .4 seconds so it's a significant difference.
The road to success is always under construction.

We have seen GMPP tuned kappa's get 20-30HP more with a hi flow car and no other changes

It definitely helps.  Turbos are dependent on the exhaust gases.

If a high flow cat would quite it down enough I'd go that route but with how loud it is I I doubt it will help much.

I have the SQR2 center outlet.  It has tip mufflers at the end of the pipe.  I also have a mid-pipe resonator.  That took care of the drone cruising, but you can hear it, especially when you step into it.  Of course the whine covers some of that sound.
