Sky Redline :sounds: upgrade question
« on: December 10, 2018, 08:41:13 PM »
Hello ‘members, I just recently purchased a Saturn sky redline. And I am upgrading the sound system. This is my first attempt I have some general knowledge in automotive no electrical however, I have previously installed amps and subs in other vehicles. This would be my first with the Saturn sky but I have questions.
I’m thinking of adding an additional sub behind the driver seat firewall panel and I just had some questions. 1# has anyone on the forum ever done this before? I’ve seen a couple picture of it done online but I’ve never got A chance to speak with anyone about it so any kind of information would be appreciate it.
More specifically my question is when I go to mount the additional sub behind the driver seat panel will I have to cut the opening for the speaker in the far wall?

Was there a question in there? :)

But here's one for you... why try to separate the Monsoon sub box?  All you might end up doing is irreparably breaking it!  You should be able to do any mods you want with a Dremel through the existing speaker hole.

By the way, others who have increased the size of the woofer have enlarged the 8" hole and then added an MDF (or similar) baffle to the front of the box - though you may need to cut out the area in the waterfall panel too, to let it poke out.

I was awaiting your acknowledgement to my statement. The one where I ask “if you don’t mind” lol and You’re absolutely right.

About a minute later, I stated I was no longer going to separate them. After removing the eight or so bolts holding the speaker to the box I then realized It  wasn’t necessary. One has access to replacing the OE 8” speaker without doing so.

OK :)

Remember you need a pretty shallow-mount woofer to fit (hence other's use of a front baffle to extend the rear space).

Exactly! Thanks for the tip. Already looking into it, placing my order in a few days. Also ordering a new set of rims and tires along with  a 9” screen head unit ‘stay tuned’
