Which Rhino ramps?
« on: March 19, 2009, 07:22:43 PM »
Thinkin' that next time I am south of the border, I may well pick up a pair of Rhino Ramps. I know they have 8000 lb and 12000 lb ramps. What ramps do most use?

If not Rhino Ramps, what do you like?  :idk:

So I take it the GXP has no problem with the Rhino ramps? Best price is Walmart? Any place else sell 'em?

I have the 8k ones as well with no problems on either the solstice, my F150 or Murano.  They aren't very high but they are strong.  I got mine at the local auto parts place for like $15

I got mine at Autozone. Used them to remove and reinstall the exhaust.  I think they will give me enough room to do anything I'll ever need.  If you got them for $15 you got a steal. I think I paid $35 or so.  Still a better price than having to pay to have the exhaust installed.  And yes, they work fine with the GXP

+1 If you can get them that cheap. Get two sets. I drive the front up on the 1st set & then jack the rear end up & slide the 2nd set under the tires. I also store my car this way for the winter. So the car don't sink down into the dirt floor.

I have stock Rims/Tires with the Kappasphere Lowering Springs.

Does anyone have this set up and been able to use the Rhino Ramps with no problems?

I'd hate to buy them just to find out that my front bumper is going to scrape.  I've had people tell me that I "should" be fine but I'd like to know for sure :)

Thanks!

You need a couple of pieces of 2x6 to drive up the ramps

Glad I did a search on this topic before posting new. I see there are 2 versions: 8,000 & 12,000 and that most have the 8,000 ramps which is good info. My car is not lowered nor do I have plans to lower the car at this point :D

Here are my questions:

Do both sets of ramps (8,000 or 12,000) have the same angle and clear the same when driving up on them?   I just want to make sure there are going to be no issues with rubbing or damage to the car.

Is the clearance good both ways?  Driving up on them with the front or backing up on them with the rear of the car?

I see that Joe talks about needing 2X6s... Is that only if the car has been lowered?

Are there any better lifting options that are affordable?

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Tim,

I'm lowered ONLY about 1/2" with the GMPP suspension kit. I've still got at least 2" clearance going up my 8000s.

And according to the manufacturers web site, the ramps have the same incline and the same lift. The biggest difference is the thickness of the material that the ramps are made of.

I have a set of 12,000 Rhino ramps,  they are quite a bit wider than the 8000 so worth the extra money. I compared them side by side at the store before buying, signficant difference.  With the wider tires on the Kappa you will want that.

TecSolOnt - Any clearance problems driving nose first or backing up onto the 12,000 ramps? I am concerned about damaging the front clip or rear panels.

Harbor Freight's 3000 Lb. Capacity Lightweight Aluminum Racing Jack #91039 is a good item to have in the garage.

I have the 12K. They are a little wider and only $10 more at AutoZone.
"Wendy" is up on a pair now waiting on her DDMWorks Backbone.

I bought the 2 piece set as it was summer and everyone was sold out of everything else and I needed a set, JUST SAY NO! They are easier to store but such a pain to put back together I don't take them apart, the catch broke first time I used them. They were supposed to break down at the ramp, ramp one piece and flat top another. The only thing I have found them good for is once I jacked up the car and just used the flat top with out the ramp under the tires, gave me a little more room to work with no ramp in the way. Ramps in general are great but not high enough for my big butt, so I drive up on the ramps and then use a 3 ton truck jack under the frame brace in the middle and put the car up higher on jack stands, with the ramps under the wheels. Makes me feel safer if something slips car will come down on the ramps and not me.
