To get back on track, well sort of. I will say I know of two people who worked there butts off to make NASSOA happen, they really really worked hard. I think maybe there only mistake was not getting more outside help earlier and there choice of board members, seems they had an uphill battle from the beginning. For me I kind of wish we could have all been more involved from the beginning, so we had a hand in building it the way we wanted it. People take a lot more pride in something they help build and tend to work harder to make it work. Then there is the rule of all organizations 10% of the people do 90% of the work. Thank you for your efforts to the the two that deserve it, and they know who they are.

After going back and re-reading my earlier post, I realized it sounded as though I was ragging about the organization. That was not my intent. From personal experience I know well that the 90/10 rule applies. The point I was hoping to make is that there is a great deal of unrealized potential there. If all that is needed is a shuffling of directors than that is what should be done. The basic structure is already in place. Let's capitalize on it.

It is OK for those of you who feel they have no use for a national body. Prior experiences may be coloring your opinions. In that case, do not subscribe...but do not assume that all organizations are like that. They're not. A good special interest club would be inclusive, not exclusive, and welcome anyone who shares the same interest. The idea is to promote the well being of the ownership experience. There is no place for power struggle or effete snobbery if the club is to effectively serve the general population.
Go N.A.K.3.D..

OK let me throw out an idea or two, if NASSOA is to continue, GET A NEW NAME. There is a stigma associated with the old one that needs to be lost. The board members should be elected by the regions, each region should elect there own, from there pick a chair. The general membership should not vote for board members, how the heck do I know who should represent the West Coast, or Canada. That assumes that regional clubs are established FIRST. Scrap the whole Nationals concept, support the brand, there are numerous All Pontiac events lets support them instead. Each region can have a yearly meet that everyone is welcome to attend, so NO MORE FIGHTING ABOUT WHERE TO HOLD NATIONALS, have several events one in each region at different times so people can attend multiple events. Work with some local autocross or track day events, be a BB for all kinds of local car events. Lets stop this elitist crap, let's be a part of the big picture with other car nuts. I promise it will be a lot more fun. Take the local Cumberland Autocross event Ben got me involved in,  more fun than just about any Solstice event I have been to and lots of very cool people. The GTO club has HUGE events and we are invited. Pontiac is extinct, lets band together. Oh and screw the dues, if there is a need for money, let it be pay as we go. Charge a nominal fee for local events if need be, let the money stay local. What does the club need money for anyway? If people want membership cards, lets get nice ones and pay for them. Please don't decide what I want or don't want.

Well I've been pretty silent on this but BigSal hit the nail on the head.  You have only a small number of people who are willing to devote any time or energy to run a national organization (of any kind) and you have a lot and I do mean a LOT of people who are willing to voice how it should be run.  The delta between the folks willing to put in the time and effort and those with good ideas is just not enough to pull it off.  I mean look at the current "we need to have a vote" results you have 18 people just over 10% who cared enough to even vote.  You think that is enough to run a national organization?  If so then best of luck to those 18 from someone who has been there and done that with a drawer full of T-Shirts to prove it.

Peace out!

Yup.  Agreed.  Even though I was one of those nominated for the council and one of the 18 who voted, you can't make it work if only 18 people are gonna actively participate.

Damn...that is sad.  Somehow, I'm still really hoping that we all continue to plan and participate in our local events.  And maybe a group or groups will still continue to step up and plan large regional events that will attract national attention.  Or maybe something national will come out of this that is closer to what The Comedian said. I dunno..eternal optimist here.

I don't expect much of anything to change for anything but the annual national meet. From my perspective anyway, NASSOA really didn't contribute anything, it mainly seemed to just want to control. One example: The t-shirt for the South-East Meet that we had in Lexington does not have a Sky on it because NASSOA owned the only immediately available artwork, and would not allow its use for that NASSOA-sanctioned event. I never have been able to understand that particular decision, and it pretty much soured me, and others, on the organization.

Seeing as how there is no governing body anymore, I will take this opportunity to declare myself supreme leader of the solstice and sky owners.  Please feel free to begin sending me $1 for membership dues every month. :D

BTW, this is what happens when you sell out to a big forum company like autoforums.  If you don't own the board or benefit from the vendors (other than them being there), you feel less obligated to keep moving forward.
