Where should I get service done?
« on: March 22, 2010, 07:35:57 PM »
Hey Guys,

I need to get some warranty work done, including a new cupholder.  I'm in Anne Arundel County, MD.  Where should I go to get service done?  A Chevy dealership?  I haven't needed anything for my car since my Saturn dealership closed.  I wanted to know where you guys are going.  And even specific dealers if you are in the general area.

Thanks

Jason

Fox Chevrolet in Laurel does great service and has a mechanic who is a Solstice nut.  I'm sure they would be glad to take good care of your Redline.

Jason,
I use Fox in Laurel, ask for Mike Lewis as your service advisor.  They are a Chevy, Buick dealership, formally Pontiac.

Tell Mike I sent you and he will know your are a fanatic about your car.

RJ, agree with Critterman.  They have worked on my car without problem.

I also am in Anne Arundel County also, where are you?

Thanks guys for the suggestion.  I'll give them a call sometime this week to schedule service.

Chuckdoc, I'm in Pasadena.  We met a couple times at Joe's Mod Meets.

I'm in a similar boat.  Soon need to do an oil change.
I know I can do it myself, but this is a cheaper job which I normally like letting a dealer do so I can establish face time with the service department.  Just in case I have an issue, I like being a regular customer, vs some no name off the street with a problem.  I've found spending a little money on regular maintenance normally ends up with you being treated extremely well, when a real need arises.
Unfortunately, the chevy dealership which s closest and a Saturn approved place, I don't like.
I guess I will take a look at the Newark Dealerships in DE and see how they fair.  It' 45 minutes farther away, but might be worth the drive.
This sucks, my Saturn dealership was awesome. One mechanic in particular was a speed freak and had a totally tricked out ION.  He did all the performance mods.
Grrrrrrr

You could always do what I do and drive it to Joes house.  You can get your oil changed, meet with good friends and the best part, take us all out to dinner.  Critterman will come down too. Just pick the weekend.

Chuck that actually sounds simpler then what I did.

Get pissed with crappy treatment from service dept.  Tell service manager and CFO of dealership that my boss is friends with dealership's owner (funny story here) and that if they didn't fix things I would next be talking directly to the owner and telling him just how :censor: ed up things were with his company.  Some how that threat actually worked because now when I take the car in for work the service manager takes care of me personally and stands next to me as I stand next to my car while the tech works on it.

The funny story goes something like this.  My employer owns an airport and many airplanes, I used to work maintaining those aircraft.  My boss, one of the owners sons, is as mentioned above friends with the dealership's owner, he lends the dealership owner one of his fathers planes.  My company's owner has many war birds worth millions of dollars however the first new plane he ever owned (his personal favorite) happens to be the one loaned to the dealership's owner.  The dealership owner happens to forget to extend the landing gear while landing, he remembers when he hears the prop grind into the runway does a go around and then lands with the gear down.  For the most part damage in this sort of situation appears to be minor, only the prop is messed up however a prop strike means the engine has to be tore down and inspected along with all of the accessories like magnetos and such.  So in the end the dealer owner does something like $60,000 worth of damage.  I got to do a lot of the repairs to the aircraft with both my boss and his father looking over my shoulder.  Pilots tend to be some of the most cocky people you will ever meet and one thing that I have found that they all hate to admit is they landed a plane gear up.   So by fate I ended up having the upper hand with the dealership.

Haven't paid for an oil change since I began driving 26 years ago!  Nothing like satisfaction of doing it yourself and knowing it's done right. Plus it gives you an opportunity to inspect more things over.

Some people are missing the point.
I can do my own oil changes.
Reasons are in my last post.

ya mooches
:)
Today I finish working on the Jeep.  Took apart my entire On Board Air System.
I have a new bracket that re-incorporates the stock auto tensioner for the serpentine belt.
This also remounts the alternator in a more solid fashion.
Chuck, the serpentine belt in this setup is bigger than us!!!!

Ellff,

There is that former Pontiac, currently Buick, Chevy, GMC dealer ship in North East or whatever that town is called on rt 40 about 10 miles from the plant.  It is where Just Mike and that group meet every month.  They are very mod friendly

I believe that is the one in Newark which is owned by the same people who owned the Saturn dealership I bought and used to have my Sky serviced at.
What would be really awesome, is if some of the people from my old service department ended up there.
I will give them a shot.
Thanks
