How to tell if GMPP tune has actually been done?
« on: November 04, 2010, 05:32:05 PM »
As the title states... How would I tell if the GMPP tune has actually been done to my Sky?

According to the previous owner, he had it done when he bought the car at the dealership, but I don't see any paperwork with it regarding the tune being done.

I also can't call the dealership he went to because they were a Saturn only dealer that got closed down when Saturn went down. =(

Any info regarding how to find it, or the site for the GMPP tune so I could maybe send them my VIN or something to see if it's done would be awesome.

I tried going to GM Performances site, but couldn't find anything regarding tunes... But then again I probably missed it. >.<

Thanks,
Joe

Look at your map sensors. There is one on the intake and one on the charge pipe going to the throttle.

do they look like they have been spliced? and do the have a silver sticker with blue words on them?

Also push info till you get to PSI and hit the throttle and see if it climbs into the 20s

I'll have to check when I get home tonight, currently the car is at home...
But typically when I floor it, I've only managed to hit a maximum of 19 PSI.

How about the premium fuel only sticker

The sensors are the most obvious since the wiring will be spliced and the sensors themselves are only held with one screw each.

Otherwise from driving you might be able to tell from more boost and no lift shift

If you get 19 PSI boost, you have the GMPP Tune.

I only get 19 sometimes, as it is dependent on the barometric pressure at the time.  If you're already at a higher barometric pressure, you don't get as much "boost".   But 19 is generally quite a bit more than stock GXPs/Redlines.

Well, I'll be honest, I don't know the barometric pressure down here... But I'm at the panhandle of Florida.

Joe check under the hood on Drivers side . There should be a Sticker that reads
"GM Performance Parts" if they put it on and should have .

That's not always the case through.  My dealer asked me if I wanted any of the stickers put on and I said NO.
Doesnt GM keep a history via the VIN # of what they have done to the car if brought in for installs and warranty work?  Ford has an Oasis report they can run on the VIN# that will list every time it goes in for any type of work.

@tazz, I was thinking the same thing, however I haven't found it if they do.

I'm still at work for another two hours, but I'll definitely check when I get home...
In the event that it doesn't have it, what's the average cost to have it done?
I've seen random prices on here for some of the tunes, but can't remember which ones cost how much. I was thinking in the ballpark of 250-400?

tazz : Your right will be in the GM work history in their system . When I had work done they were able to pull it up on their Computer.

Signorelli  when you go to your GM Dealer ask them to pull the work history on your Sky. ask for a print out .

you need to buy better quality gasoline.your at sea level so the air is dense as it gets (and keep your foot in it longer).course could be that you have a pressure leak some ware

If you get the kit from them it cost 650.00 + about 1 1/2 hr Labor install and reflash the PCM. If you get the GMPP kit elsewhere It will cost you the GM labor install.
I got my GMPP tune kit for 455.00 +tax from GM Parts Direct

Thank you all for the information... It appears that either the guy who sold it to me lied... Or paid for something he didn't get.
Either way, I don't have a tune on her yet.

Well if you're still getting 19psi boost, you must've had something......I don't think stock GXPs will do 19psi.....

IIRC
I think mine stock did 16 then I adjusted the boost actuator nut and boost went to 18psi.  When I had the GMPP tune done I was hitting 21psi with the adjusted boost actuator.

High altitudes can get you higher PSI.

Since altitude does matter as does barometric pressure, my part of Central Hellinois is about 700 feet above sea level, I don't know what the baro was that day when I hit 19.
