Is there any difference between the 2.4 manual transmission and the 2.0 turbo transmission? Gear ratios the same? Same strength? Syncros? Thanks guys

There is no difference between the manual transmissions in the NA and the GXP. They have the same gear ratios, at least if we are talking 2007 and up.

ok ya I was just making sure. It's coming from a 2008 saturn sky redline. Just wanted to make sure the transmissions and gear ratios were the same in both engine applications because I've found a great deal on a transmission but its a 2.4 and I'm a redline

Have you talked to Elff?  He has a trans from a Redline that he is selling, you might be able to get a pretty good deal assuming he hasn't sold it already.

The 06 had a different gear ratio (in 3rd) different than any other year.   The gearing in the diff is different

Was the 3rd gear longer or shorter? I didnt even know they made the sky in 06. Maybe the solstice though? And yes I am aware that the differential gearing is different. Its just the transmission gearing that I was wondering about. I really did get a good deal on it though. It has like 30k miles and in perfect shape for $450! lol

It's a longer gear.  And you are right they didn't make the Sky in 06

The 2006 Solstice 3rd gear was 1.37 versus a 1.51 in the following years. All the other gears are the same for all years.  It is really just a bit too long, which is why it was changed.  On the 2006 2.4 NA, shifting from 2nd to 3rd drops you out of the power band. Most people don't drive hard enough to notice this.

The Sky started production in January/February 2006, as a 2007 model year car.  2007 Skys started being delivered to dealers for sale in March 2006.

I've noticed it.  I was thinking the NA's were all different than the LNF's, but maybe I'm thinking of that oddball transmission they made for the performance cars.  I used to have a contact for Aisin, but I probably forgot to grab it when I left my old company.

Hmm thats strange. Well I have the sky redline and I have noticed that 1st through 3rd are perfectly fine. But once you get into 4th its a really long gear! and then 5th is even longer. Thats one of the reasons why I was mainly just a little curious about how long the 3rd gear might have been.

I used to own a cobalt ss turbo and in that car, the third gear is really long but its amazing! 3rd gear would wrap up at about 110mph at 6500 rpm. And at least in the cobalt, there was plenty of power to pull the gear all of the way through and rapidly.

I could def see that the 06 solstice transmission with that 3rd gear would be no good for the 2.4l sky or solstice, but what about for the LNF engine?

I'm running a stage III DDM supercharger set up in my NA.  Somewhere around 270-80 HP at the wheels.  At the track,  1st and 2nd as quick as you can shift and then 3rd gear through the traps around 6800 RPM and 101 MPH.  Upper end of 13 seconds.  0-60 is under 5 seconds.  So I would love a shorter 3rd.  I can use it from 20 to 105 or so.

ya my third gear ends at like 91 at 6700 rpm ish. lol If I had the transmission out I'd ask if you'd want to trade third gears haha

Your best bet to figure this out is to pull up parts lists for the different years and compare part numbers.
