crazy question that cameup with a buddy of mine.
Is there a difference in the NEW uncut key vs an OLD UNCUT orginal style keys with Pontiac arrow logo?  If not a person could just go on Ebay purchase the old style uncut keys and have the Dealer program those keys instead of the Generic New keys without logo.

Yes.  The new key only uses a small hole to help prevent an external force from switching the key out of the Run position.  The old key is slotted.  This is why the dealers are supposed to take the old keys from you when the recall is performed.  You are not supposed to use a slotted key anymore and I'm sure it's a liability issue for GM.

Also it's my understanding that the new key is thinner than the old.  Which means the old won't fit in the new tumbler.

I'm pretty sure this is just a rumor,  as my old keys will still slide into the new cylinder/tumbler.

So now they recalled my car, but they still don't have any spare parts here in Germany.

I'm still wondering about the recall, because I've never had any problems with the ignition. :idk:

Additionally I have a bunch of keys hanging down from my key while I'm driving.

Finally got the call yesterday will be taking it in 2 weeks dealer said it would take between an hour and an hour and a half asked if I wanted a loaner car and I told them no thanks I'll wait I have read too many stories of dealer techs taking cars out for a "test drive" and end up trashing the cars

Got mine done yesterday.  The dealer was close enough to home that I could have the courtesy driver take me home and then pick me up later in the day.  The new keys are tight and it will be a little while until they are worn in I guess.  Like any other time you get a new key made for a car.

I did take the tech who was identified as the "guy who knows Skys really well" (ex Saturn tech) for a short drive to pick his brain about my turbo problem.  I'll update the other thread with that.

First time I've been in a dealer for a couple years.  They were pretty businesslike about the recall and that was that.

I got a recall notice on Saturday for my G6 about some electrical connector issue and the "service brake."  It's another FYI there's a recall but we don't have any parts to fix it have a nice day kind of thing.

Anyone else with a G6, I know there are a few here, get something like that?

Interesting.  The dealer told me that the old keys would still work.  I guess I'll find out for myself on the 29th.

From everything I have read including posts by people who have had the recall done the old keys will still work the difference is the new keys have a round opening for the keychain and do not have the Pontiac Arrowhead emblem embossed on them I'm planning to keep my old set but not use them as I can see a liability issue down the road if something happens .

I tried to use my old key ... it would not start the car ... then when I inserted the new key to start the car I got the little icon that meant I needed to do a security relearn ... maybe I'm the only one this happened to ... just wanted to pass along what happened to me.

Got my new ignition switch installed today. They kept one old key, I tried the spare old key in the ignition. The first time I inserted it the security logo came on and it wouldn't start. Tried the new key and it fired right up. Tried the old key again and it worked! Strange. Just a side note. The new keys dont have the Pontiac Arrowhead in the key base. Glad I got to keep at least one.

So what happened here is that they reprogrammed the car to recognize the new keys and deleted the old keys.  That's why it wouldn't start with the old key.  If you read the owners manual it tells you how to program the car to accept a new key.  Basically you start the car with a programed key turn it off and then use the new key within a time limit.  The security light comes on and goes off during this and new key is then programed to the car.  Sounds like if you reverse the order of things it still works.

Did they give you two new keys since you only gave them one old key?
