Factory Service Manual question...newer or older?
« on: March 07, 2014, 03:22:06 PM »
Sorry if this is a dumb question...I'm looking to invest in the Factory Service Manual...I have an 07 GXP.  I have found the manuals between $200 and $400.  I know all the model years are pretty similar.

My question is, Does GM add real world learning to the later model year's manuals that would benefit older models?  If so, I'd think my best bet would be to get the latest model year manual available.

Or, is the 07 unique enough to mean that the 07 manual would be the best idea, because the procedures in the later manuals wouldn't be accurate for my car?

Its not a cheap book for that many bills so I want to be sure to get the one that makes the most sense for me.

It's been my experience that a manual for say an 08 or later will incorporate the changes for that model year as well as all the instructions for the previous years.  So if you have an 07 car but get the 09 manuals you should be good to go however if you have an 09 car and get an 07 manual you might be missing some information.

I think after 07 it shouldn't matter, but there were changes (in electrical, etc) from the early years that will probably not show in later manuals.

Unless there's a price diff, get the one for your year.  The procedures wont be better in later ones.
