New build
« on: January 19, 2016, 04:13:08 PM »
Finally got around to starting the engine build. Decided to go with an LDK long block, Molnar rods, Wiseco pistons and the PAW WR-3 turbo. DDM will also install their 2.0L clutch to deal with power to the wheels. With methanol injection, I should get some decent power.

Picked up Forgestar F14s in brushed titanium 18x8.5 fronts / 18x9.5 rear. I'm looking at adding BC Coilovers and the DDM wilwood brake kit while it's there.

Yes. He will do the build and a few other items for me. Clutch, coil overs and possibly a big brake kit if I can get my rims installed in time.

Will the red coating on the turbo survive the heat?  It looks like wax?

JesseB is correct - powder coated. My car is kind of black/chrome themed and I wanted something different under the hood. So going red with the big brake kit is a possibility too.

It looks just like the wax on a Makers Mark bottle.
That's not a bad thing, just makes me thirsty.

Sort of
The engine side and bottom has a good chance of discoloration due to the heat.

This is why I repainted mine.
That and due to the fact that I had to fix a hole in the weld where the Elbow meets the compressor housing.

Elff you need that ceramic coating Kelu's tuner was showing us, that should withstand the heat.

I wonder why they decided to weld the elbow to the compressor housing. I ran my WR3 with a silicone elbow and I'm running the same silicone elbow on the 7163 now.

I remember seeing the $150 option for the Kappa's on PAW's site and I guess that's what you get with that option.

The WR-3 I got came with the elbow welded - I think he is doing that with the turbos now.

I dont have a WR3 but imho its an appearance thing. JB weld fixed my issue.  Its good to 300+psi.  Ill blow the engine long before I blow my fix

Powdercoating is different in many ways like any other thing. I just powder coated my valve cover locally and cheap and started to peel after not even 10 000km, swaintech is a different story, i still see parts made by them in my tuners' nissan gtr which is the record holder for europe for that car on 1/4 mile after 2-3 years of hard racing and normal driving they are still impeccable. If I remember correctly manifolds for Lamborghini and high end racing cars were made by Swaintech so quality is very high, price pretty much same.

Decided to pull the trigger on Opel injectors/fuel rail for the build. Also snagged a powder coated valve cover in gloss black from Modern Performance. They also do the raised images in silver. Finally Forgestar F14s 18x8.5 F / 18x9.5 R in Brushed Titanium.

I'm still wondering if those Opel injectors are indeed bigger because they are coming from an engine similar to ours which is not pushing more power if I remember correctly.

Those wheels look like Enkei RPF1's which are very popular.  Forgestar makes a great product.  Normally I am not a fan of wheel locks, but those are so nice, you might want to think about a set.
