So while I have my engine apart to replace the timing chain, I decided to crack open the oil pump for a look-see. It looks like it's been through some shit - or more accurately like some shit's been through it.

Am I wasting money trying to save this engine?  Or do all oil pumps look this way after 100K+ miles?

A Google search turned up this and from that your wear looks quite normal.

Thanks, Sly Bob.  I found that same article and other pages that set my mind at ease a bit.  I think I’ll order a new pump/front cover from ZZP for peace of mind sake anyway.  Seems maybe my front oil seal leaked some over the years as.well anyway.

Good luck, have you decided if you are going to pull the engine or not?

Yeah I think that a new pump at this point might be a good idea. Don't want to have issues related to oil pressure in the future and be kicking yourself for not changing it while it's apart.

Not pulling the engine.  I know there's plastic in the pan, but I'm betting it'll just stay put.
