Oil life monitor reset issue
« on: November 19, 2022, 11:46:44 AM »
We've been lurking here for some time. Which is probably a good thing. That means GXPsy has been running well for years without needing any significant maintenance. However, at her most recent oil change we went to reset the monitor. We tried both the DIC method, and the gas pedal to the floor three times, all to no avail. Multiple attempts on different days. Still, no reset. Is this a common problem? Any known corrective action? Thanks.

Do the button pushes on the steering wheel get you to the reset option?  Or do they just not work?

Did you follow the method below?  What happened?

How to Reset the Engine Oil Life System
The Engine Oil Life System calculates when to change
your engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Whenever
the oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate
when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs
where you change the oil prior to a CHANGE OIL SOON
message being turned on, reset the system.
After changing the engine oil, the system must be reset:
1. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN, with the engine off.
2. Press the information and reset buttons on the
Driver Information Center (DIC) at the same
time to enter the personalization menu.
See DIC Vehicle Personalization on page 3-44.
3. Press the information button to scroll through the
available personalization menu modes until the
DIC display shows OIL-LIFE RESET.
4. Press and hold the reset button until the DIC
display shows ACKNOWLEDGED. This will tell
you the system has been reset.
5. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF.
If the CHANGE OIL SOON message comes back on
when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system
has not reset. Repeat the reset procedure.

I have not tried that technique. Yet. I went to the DIC, scrolled through the menu to Engine Oil Life, and held the reset button. just as though I was resetting the odometer, fuel use, etc. Reset not accomplished. I'll try your suggestion this evening after she gets home from work. Thanks.

Just turn the key forward without starting, hold down both the Info and button below for a 3 or so seconds, release and it should say "Oil Life Reset", then press the bottom button (return key icon) to acknowledge.

Thanks, Joe. That one worked. Kind of interesting...why does GM have so many different reset methods? Rhetorical, don't bother to answer. Ignition on, motor off, press gas pedal to floor three times before 5 seconds has elapsed works on all of them. Except GXPsy. Oh well.
