AfterShock Hood vents...
« on: March 13, 2009, 03:48:35 PM »
hey all...

Here's a few preliminary image renderings of some heat extraction vents for the hood. Nothing fancy, just simple and clean.

I'm probably going to do another concept which will include an intake with or without the extraction vents. Let me know what you think.

Pretty nice, looks like the continuation of the SD290 fenders.  That would make a nice set.  I'd definitely do a intake to go with the hood.

I love those Rudy. Nothing that jumps out at you from a distance and that's the way I prefer it.

Is your concept an entire hood or just the vents that would be massaged into the stock hood?

Rudy, if you design a hood like that, consider a rain catch and take away system.  Heat extraction is good but most have alot of upgrades that we don't want to get road grime with rain on.  Some thing to think about.

We'll have the entire hood with vents made of fiberglass.  I'm currently working on an center intake version which may or may not have the extraction vents included along with the design.

We'll have a debris/rain guard underneath probably incorporated into the unside hood structural frame support.  I'm thinking that the hoods will have a sealed pocket to place the honeycomb grills into the cavity and if you prefer cut out the seal to allow for real venting, then you'll have that option later too.

Any chance you're going to do the same for the Sky? This looks great!

Here's another version where I decided to try something that's a little more streamline than the first concept.  Here, you'll see a recessed honeycomb grill insert as well to match the rest of the grills.  Anyways, what do you think?  rudy

So many choices, I think I like this one the best so far, and it looks like it could be converted to a RAM air very easy.

I think it looks pretty good Rudy but I am not sure if I would purchase a hood at all since I think the stock hood isn't so bad looking. I think the recessed grills, sideskirts, and front lip is where you would get the most sales / interest from. But I think I speak for most people when I say that we really appreciate what your doing for the community Rudy since you are designing a lot of the things that we desire such as the recessed grills and then your taking chances with your own original designs such as the hood and sideskirts.

I like the subtle vents, but when you do an air-take hood, please keep the heat extraction vents. It would be unique, and functional at the same time. Still wait'n for the recessed grill.....

Here's another concept with a dual intake similar to the blue and white sol but not as complicated.  Thinking this one fits the sol quite well along with carrying the traditional Pontiac dual intake.  Don't minfd the front leading edge as I would like that to have a radius there to blend into the hood more smoothly.  Most like will do the finishing touches (blending, radiusing, smoothing) by hand on the machined prototype.  Let me know what you think.  Thanks, rudy.

I think if that becomes the production version I might go for the vents only.  I feel the intake is to far back on the hood and not so much a fan of the dual intake inlets.  But hey thats one opinion, still love the vents and all the other projects you have going on.

I like this hood. I really like the vents. I like the subtle lines and the classic Pontiac double intake.

One thing I would like to see changed is the lines of the dual intakes so it more closely matches the eyelet cutouts for the head lights. As it stands now they dont match well. If those lines more closely matched this hood would have it all.

I agree that the hood scoop on your most recent concept puts the inlets too far back on the hood.

I'll chime in too.  At first I thought the intake vents should be a little farther forward, but the more I look at the pics, I'm not as sure anymore.  Is it too much work to change your drawings to move the intakes a few inches forward?  I know nothing about how you are doing these designs, so if it's not worth the effort, then by all means ignore this request!

Looking at the hood from the overhead concept image, the vents and intake kinda look like a bird... Best way for me to describe what needs to happen is to make the beak of that bird a touch longer.

Kinda like this but keep your vents.

You can taper yours off before it gets to the front clip.

Rudy:

The scoop that far to the rear of the hood would be good for a carb engine, hence why most Pontiac scoops were placed so far to the rear.  When FI became the standard fuel induction system for Pontiac the  duel scoop was moved to the forward section of the hood where the air intake was located.

I personally am not a fan of the duel scoop system on the GXP, but "each to his own."  I still believe the Z06 type scoop toward the front of the hood with two exit vents toward the rear of the hood would be the least intrusive and best looking, but then again, "each to his own."   :2c:

Here's another concept of the single intake.  Based on the feedback given and preliminary designs, I designed the intake to blend well and flow seamlessly with the rear exit vents.  I also wanted a bold statement with the raised intake yet incorporate subtle transitions on the surfaces of all sides.  Again, keeping in within the lines and compound curves of the hood, clean and very oem was key for this exercise.

I'll be working on another version with dual intakes as well and hopefully could start prototyping the two versions very soon.

How about something to replace the non functioning Sky Vents.
Especially in Black to match my Ultraleggera's and to contrast with my white paint?

Rudy, the line flow very nice.  I think it would look better with a larger opening on the scoop and lower in the front more lined up with the lights.  For example
