I dyno'ed Streak
« on: March 14, 2009, 02:29:44 PM »
I even scanned it with HPT but failed to save the file. Smart, huh? Also, as I drove away, I found the heater control set on Defrost  so if the ECU does not command the A/C clutch OFF at WOT there may have been some drag. The first run was the best.

Nice numbers!  What tune are you running on it and what performance mods do you have again?  I can't keep up with everyone....

Hell, I can't keep ME straight.

Wester's, MF 3" catback, S.P. downpipe, K&N air filter. I e-mailed the graph to Lyndon to see what he thinks of the loss at 3000 rpm. Curious. I plan on replacing the front exhaust pipe with a S.P. front pipe to have a full 3" system vs. the 2.5" neck on the MF at the flare.

Looks awesome!! These LNF motors have a ton of potential!! I'm considering a turbo upgrade but I'm beginning to wonder if its even necessary.

First gear is now nearly useless. (I am contemplating changing the final drive gears!) It becomes a matter of usability vs. bragging rights. Dyno "racing" is nice, and plenty of people like to bench race rather than real race. If one wants to go straight in a hurry, more power is great. There is SO much torque at this point that my Goodyears are now marginal, the car can be SO easily steered with the gas pedal, and in the wrong hands the car could be almost (sort of) dangerous. What used be nearly irritating car in the rain is almost aggravating. With nearly half the tread still on the tires at 22,000 miles I am not ready to plop down a bunch of money for stickier tires that will wear faster. (Can you say COMPROMISE.) These are not knocks on the car, tunes, or other peoples' desire to build more power. All the experimenting has certainly prepared me well when it came to modding my car.

All that said, my gut tells me that there is over 450 crank horsepower on 93 octane with a modded stock turbo, but not until a) the exhaust ports are opened some, b) some other injectors come available and/or more is learned about the existing ones, c) headers, d) cams and e) just more development time is invested as more parts come on line. The reason I mentioned more development time may is is because the ECM software program is huge. HPTune software can download the LE5 flash in 4 minutes The LNF flash takes TWENTY minutes. WOW. BIG power has already been created with bigger turbos, so it's there. And so far the LNF engine is staying glued together. Should be fun to watch. For now, I can't wait for the first Solo event and a chance to slap on the 295 Hoosiers to see what it is REALLY like.

I agree that the potential of the LNF motor is far beyond what anyone thought when they were first released.  I think GM might have even been a bit surprised at how well it holds up to increased power modifications.  In the near future, I can almost guarantee we will start to see newer mods being released which will start to delve in the manifold, cams, and injector areas.

Spiky- there's talk on one fo the other forums of a twin turbo VNT Aerocharger set up that will make around 800 crank hp and a stock long block, of course its just talk until someone comes up with the cash and the huevos to get it done! It's a great time to be a LNF engined car that's for sure! It's the only American made engine that makes the import guys scared and envious even though they won't admit it. The SS models are stomping the FWD Honda boys, and the Kappa has far exceeded anyone's expectations in EVERY motor sport arena in which they have entered. snaponbob's and many other forum members dyno results just prove what a little unloved GM motor can do with a little hard work and a little bit of Wester's genius.

UNLOVED engine??? Who hates THIS gem. The whole Ecotec line is the next GM "small block" just as the 265 mouse motor has evolved into the 7 liter aluminum 505hp monster that IT is. BTW, the chances of a TRULY stock Ecotec long block living more than a couple engine dyno runs is about zero. Block and crank - maybe. Pistons, rods and head bolts - not a chance.

What all Parameters does the HPT software scan of the run?
MC Racing should have whatever data they gathered on there PC as far as RPM's, Engine speed, A/F's.  They save it under your own file and will burn off a disc for you with that info. Not much but that may be able to help a bit.

What they have on disk is what is printed out, and I posted that on the first post. They were not hooked to the ALDL so they don't have a data stream. I was hooked up, but failed to save the file. Dumass move on my part. I'll get the car out on the road where is safe, and do some 2000-4500 blasts in third gear with my laptop hooked up and send that to Lyndon.

Actually that's probably the best way to handle that since it will be real time actual driving and not a simulated drive test at WOT only like the dyno run.
BTW
You can actually break down the graph with the raw data if they put it on a disk and change the graph printout if you have the free version of the Dynojet software.  I played with my graph and data for my Ford and did a printout in like 1/2 sec increments for A/F's Tq Hp as well as actual speed.  As mentioned though nothing is going to be better than actual driving runs logged but just thought I mention that if someone doesnt have the ablity to log there dyno run.  They could use that data as a starting point to send to a tuner and have them start to play with the tune.
A few of us guys with Ford's that did not have a way to log the run did this and the tuner we used looked at the data sent to him and used it as a starting point to fix issues.  Still better than nothing in that case.  If the tuner knows the vehicles well enough they can almost know what is the cause and how to fix the issue even with little or no data.  From what Im hearing about Lyndon he falls into that category and knows alot about this vehicle and does a awseome job.

Each time I'm on the road doing WOT, the compressor was turned off.  This is especially noticed in the summer time when the A/C is blowing and goes warm!!!

Already confirmed the cutoff. Thanks. Now, I need to stomp on the car some actually SAVE the scan file this time for Lyndon. Spoke with him this AM. He says he has seen the same sort of blip I've shown, but not often and does not know why it does that. So, we'll see.

So you are saying the cutoff is there or not?  The dip could have been from your compressor
