Interior fuse box reloc.
« on: March 21, 2009, 09:58:02 PM »
Hi boys, and girls, and welcome to Mr.Marky's why did you do that?, talk hour.  Today's show is brought to you by Dog'em Performance where, If the twins didn't put it in your car, then it doesn't belong there.
This hour we are going to show you a way to give your passengers a little more room.

Let me start by saying if you like having your car fixed by the dealership, this one may not be for you. For if they look for the fuse box it won't be there. And they will have this  :ghug:. After they call you, and you tell them, you moved it. They will think your this :idiot:

Now sorry to say but I have no pics of the fuse box in it's "OEM" place. So pull back your floor carpet. Remove the plastic piece with the fuse map on it. Now there are two bolts on the bottom. You can see those easy right. There are two more on top these are not too easy to see. Feel for them first. Now once you know the area in which they are, get your a$$ out of the car. It's tight down there, so take a brake. Maybe  :dancing: a little. Ok enough of that take those bad boys out. Now you can pull the whole thing out fuse box, and all. The wiring is a little tight so just be carefull when pulling. You should be able to get a little slack out of it. Now that you have some room to play with, there are too bolts holding the box to that frame. Remove them, ok this part you have to ease the wiring, and the box out of the back of the frame. Take your time, it will make it. And take those big relays out, or it won't make it. So your done with the easy part. A little more  :dancing: ,then back to work.
The panel under the glove box has to come out. The two push pins, pull out pretty easy. And theres a bolt all the way under there. Don't bend your back out too much, you still want to be able to drive after this. OK now push the front down, more on the left side. You'll have to hold on to the back of the right side and lift it a little while pushing down on the other side. Take your time again here, don't brake it unless you like that kind of thing.
Fun time. Take the fuse box, and pull it out as far as you can.  Turn it upside down. If you can't then you have to look up in there, and remove anything holding the wiring back. Till you can turn that bad boy. Once it is upside down. Use cable ties strap it up which ever way you feel best. There really isn't much up there. Just make it tight and try not to use other wires to hold it up. Once that's done you should get a . That panel you remove has to be cut, to now fit. Measure as best you can cutting less then you need to fit it in slowly. The floor carpet and plastic piece with the fuse map will have to be cut to fit too. Cut only enough to it fits, to your liking. There is room to play here as you can see in the pics. Good job :woohoo:
The reason for the cable ties, if you have to, you can put it all back. I have done this twice. When returning to dealerships.

This should give your passeger 3-4 more inchs in leg room. I havn't had anyone hit it fuse box with there feet. And I have had tall, and round in my car. So it shouldn't be a problem. And everyone can  :dancing:.

Well good luck, and good night. I will see you soon in the next Mr.Marky's why did you do that?.

VERY nice Mr.Marky. A great mod for those with long legs. Won't ever be a problem with my wife riding shot gun in the passenger seat as she's tiny. I did however have a friend over six feet tall with longer legs sitting there last summer and I never laughed so much in my life.

This mod would have given the room that he so DESPERATELY needed.
Just trying to do my part...
