Car Wash Time - Get Your RaggTopp!
« on: March 25, 2009, 05:17:28 PM »
Time to stock up on RaggTopp again!  Now JPM carries both the complete care kit as well as the individual products.

RAGGTOPP by Wolfsteins is the choice of pros and endorsed by Haartz, the leading supplier of top fabric and vinyl for virtually every U.S. automaker and most European manufacturers (including the solstice and sky).  Also, only RAGGTOPP products are applied to every Solstice and Sky top before it leaves the factory so you know it's a quality product.

Most completely forget about protecting their convertible top and think that just washing it every now and then is fine.  The truth is that the convertible top is an item that requires extra care and is vulnerable to the suns rays.  Fabric tops, such as those found on the Solstice and Sky, are the most vulnerable as natural materials break down faster than those found in vinyl tops.  To keep your top looking new, clean, and have it protected from the elements, you should treat it regularly with protectants and cleaners that are developed specifically for the type of top you have.

Along with wash and wax supplies, RAGGTOPP cleaner and protectant is something that no convertible owner should be without.  It's not a question of if you need it, it's a question of if you have it.

Also, how better to protect your leather interior and JPM leather accessories than with RAGGTOPP's specially formulated leather care kit.  This kit has been specifically developed for convertibles and contains UV protection from the suns rays.

JPM Is also proud to have the LOWEST price on RaggTopp products.  Check out our lineup below which can all be purchased through our website: http://www.jpmcoachworks.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=33_37

I use RaggTop at least once a month. Aside from protecting the top, it also gives the fabric a darker healthier look.

deepwater805, thanks for the information.  I know you hail from California-Mexican border and therefore your GXP gets a lot of sun, and when we lived in Douglas, Arizona we had a car-port so our brand new Honda Civic was protected from the elements, like a garage in the midwest.  Well, my point is, after reading your post, I became alarmed that I have not shown due diligence with our "Miss Red Eagle".  We took delivery of our 2007 December 27th, 2006, so that's 2 years 3 months that we have owned her, and she now has 10,230 miles.

I have only applied one application of the protectant on the top over the entire time we have owned her and that was last summer, but she is garaged all the time that she is not driven and most of the miles have been attending National and Regional Meets.  I really feel guilty, as we have never owned a convertible before and feel stupid now because of the wear and tear the top may have taken even though it is garaged when not driven.

Since you are the expert here, and I am the one that has been caught with my pants down, I guess I am asking if I have caused undue wear and tear with the breakdown of the molecular structure of the cloth top?

Thanks for your kind response.
Most sincerely,
GXPinKC

Ron

How many of those 10,230 miles have been with the top down?  How often does it set in the sun with the top up or in rain?  Being exposed to the elements it where most of the harm comes from.

I have had my car for just about the same amount of time as you, I have never driven it in the rain and it has only spent a few days out in the sun with the top up when I have driven it to work.  The last time I washed the car, end of October, the water would still bead up on the top just like the first time I washed it.  I feel comfortable saying that the original treatment was still good and no harm has taken place because of my lack of retreating it.  Right now I am debating if the cleaner is really needed and whether or not it may actually be more harmful then good since my top is kept clean and has no stains or other dirt present.

Thanks Sols Asylum and Deep-GXP for your words of wisdom.  As I said most of the mileage has been to and from Meets with the top up, as my wife doesn't like to travel the speed of light with here hair blowing in the wind.  You know guys, it's a female thing!
Glad my hair is short, what little I have left.

Anyway, as a guess Sol Alsylum, I would say that the top has been up 7,000 miles, down 3,230 miles.  I don't take it out in the rain or snow when in and around Kansas City, and when we have it out on short trips or out and about, the top is always down.   When we get to to Meets the top is usually always down, except when parked over night.

So, there you have it.  I hope I am good to go.  In retro-spect I am glad we have had the one application.

Park next to a new car and you will see how much it has faded.  Use raggtopp and it will greatly reduce fade.

Deepblue's idea is a good one. It's hard to see fading unless you've got something to compare it to. However, you can almost guarantee some fading from the intense Arizona sunshine.

I've got a garage that the Ghost stays in 90% of the time, but even in the garage I keep the top up in order to keep it stretched and not allow wrinkles to set it.

Every Tuesday my car wash dude comes around on his bicycle about 2:00 pm to do his thing. For 150 pesos (about $10 bucks) he details the entire car in my front driveway, including Zaino polish. Anyway, about two hours before he arrives I spray the top down thoroughly with Raggtop inside the garage (out of the sun), wipe the excess off the paint with a soft cotton towel, and let it dry. By the time he gets there it's dry enough to be brushed and washed.

As this is the first spring cleaning that the car has gotten I haven't bought any sealer for the top. Ragtopp is the product most here are using?

I know there are other products out there but if Ragtopp works well why reinvent the wheel? Eshine Canada is only a few kilometers from here so I can go pick it up there.

Raggtopp is what is recommended by the people that make the tops for our cars.  I would like to think that they know what they are talking about.

Works for me! Ordered it today. I wish JPM was in Canada as that's a great price.

This has been really helpful to me as I've often wondered how best to maintain the top.  I've had my car since 2006 and all I've done so far is wash it periodically.  Unlike the body and tires, it's never been treated with any special cleaners or protectants.  I must say that my car has always been pampered and never spent the night outdoors, it is garaged during the day and night and most of the time the top is down (California weather).  The top still looks brand new.  Having said that, I will now order the cleaner and protectant just to be sure it stays that way.  Thank you all.

According to RaggTopp, neither product will harm the paint or clearcoat finish.  I hadn't read anything about wax but i'll check with my rep to see what he says.  I don't think either will affect the wax enough to matter.  At worst, the cleaner will take a bit off.

My recommended application method for the protectant is to apply it to a soft rag first, then wipe the rag onto the top instead of just spraying it directly onto the top.  It's much less messy this way.

You can always drop some old sheets on the glass and painted surfaces to keep the fallout off as you spray. Do this if you apply directly to the top or to a rag first as JPM stated...

I've had to do this while using pressurized cans of tire dressing on the shoes.

Just talked to my rep.  The neither product should affect your wax if used properly.  IE, don't clean your whole car with the cleaner.  The runoff from the top rinse or from some overspray is fine.
