Feel the air
« on: March 28, 2009, 01:47:08 PM »
Sorry Sol guys this one's just for sky's. Your body styling makes for hot hot hot. Not you  It's just harder for a sol to breath. But with a little work, the sky can breath nicely. Here's what I did.

The first two pics are the grill. I have drilled holes into it. Removed the bumper behind it by cutting it away.  To let the air flow threw it.  Also I placed a mesh round the grill, if not the drilled holes can be noticed.

In the above pic you can see the holes. If you get a aftermarket grill you can skip the drilling part.

Below are the pics of the brake air duct inlet. The same mesh to make for a nice look. And you really can't see the cuts. But the behind pic shows the opening. Also there is a cut opening under the dust which can't be seen. Now these are really hard to remove. If your going to do this plz help yourself and remove the whole bumper. The intercooler mounts can cut nicely into your skin. Trust me on this.

Now before doing any of the above. The fenders need to be cut or all that incoming air will have no place to go. In fact I started by cutting my fenders first. Over a year ago. My computer is pushed down into one fender after removing the windshield washer bottle. My battery is in my trunk. And my under hood fuse box, is in the battery's old spot. These things don't have to be done. But heat may become a problem. And you won't really have a free flowing set-up. You want as much air as possible exiting the sides of the car. Or you won't be pulling any heat out of the engine bay. But for me so far so good.

I'm not posting every detail. Moving the battery to the trunk, does cause problems when bringing the car in for service. And you may not want to do all of the things I have. Most of this stuff here is not too easy. But it's not too hard with the right tools, and time. I have small hands, and don't mind cutting them up. So I did this with the bumper on. But if your going to change your incooler and your taking the bumper off. Then this is just the project your should think about.
