Review: Wii Fit
« on: April 01, 2009, 06:03:45 PM »
Ok, two months ago I bought the Wii fit for da wife.  I never thought it would be that useful for a manly workout for a guy like me.  (I do not know why this would matter as  my wife and I added together still would be a man short).  Well we got  the thing home and hooked it up and what do you know, I actually like it.  You put in your height and birthday and then step on this small platform and it tells you (at least in my case) that you are overweight.  Great, I got a mother that does that on a regular basis.  I did find a way to beat this, ya just keep making yourself taller until it says that you are perfect.  (By the way if anyone from Nintendo calls you, I am 6 foot 3).

Now it gives you a couple of balance tests to do and calculates your fitness age.  In my case I started out being 78. I discovered the trick is not to have several beers before you take a balance test.

Then it gives you choices of exercises in 4 groups:  Yoga (I picked this initially but it turned out not to be the little muppet like guy from star wars but actually placing you body in some really hurtful positions.  After the EMT's unwound my legs from behind my head, I tried some of the other yoga stuff.  Most involves standing on one foot and doing ridiculous things with your arms and hands and listening to da wife yelling downstairs "I heard a thump, are you alright down there?"

Then there were the balance activities, skiing, ski jumping, dodging flying objects (at this I have lots of experience and tend to excell)

This is followed by strength activities which I skip entirely as I have the strength of a sea sponge and just holding up the wii fit remote wears me out.

And lastly the aerobics.  Boxing, hula hoop, step aerobics to music, and running in place.  I do this until I can not breathe.

I feel I am getting in shape and the whole process is enjoyable and highly recommended.

As soon as tax season is over, I am going to insist that Keith buy me one of those things!  Sounds like fun!

Oh yeah, chuckdoc, thanks for making me laugh!

Oh yes, its improved greatly,  I am no longer short of breathe while walking downstairs.  I also can lift the Wii remote with one hand.  I am lying on the floor panting as I type this and this just might be as good as I can get!!!!!

I don't think we can expect any pictures lil goat, the camera alone weighs like 1.1 lbs, and then there is the ordeal of pushing that shutter button ALL THE WAY down.  A guy could sprain something!
