AfterShock Recessed Grills...
« on: April 02, 2009, 03:21:59 PM »
hey Folks...

I thought I would share the latest developments on this ongoing project that seems to last forever.  I'm expecting the package from EOS next Monday and will begin test fitting afterwards.  Here's the latest pics of round 2:

Here's the link to the thread from the other forum if you don't know the history of this project:
http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/f111/recessed-grill-46595/

Anyways, I'll post progress of this project as I go along.  The next phase of development, assuming fitment goes smoothly, would be to create silicone moulds for production purposes.

Those recessed grills are what I have been waiting for. I wish that I had your vision for this vehicle and the means to make them come true. Very nice Rudy. I and the entire community are anxiously waiting for these grills to come to fruition.

No pressure.

Way to go SOLster!  I've been following your thread on the other forum for what seems like forever.  It looks like you are nearing the finish line and I Have my fingers crossed for a perfect fit when you test them.  I'll be down for a pair as soon as you're ready to release the finished product!

Awesome design.  It looks like the grill is a one piece design now.

It's still going to be 2 piece.

I thought the same DeepBlueGXP but you gotta look closely to notice.  But yeah he did a great job making it look like one piece.  I wonder what kind of grill inserts will be available later :)

As well they should, since it is a better looking car :)  or at least older

Rudy, will the centers fit the N/A grill openings as well?  If so put me down for a set please.

I don't see the two pieces.  The frame for the grill was originally two piece.

My eyes are playing tricks on me one way or another.  If I look at the bottoms of the grills, I think I can see a seam where the two pieces are seperate.  But if I look anywhere else, it looks way too smooth to be anything but 1-piece.  Here's hoping for 2-piece!

The frame is one piece and the grill is another piece, thus 2 piece.

I don't see the two pieces.  The frame for the grill was originally two piece.

i think that was just to fit on the old prototyping machine.  IIRC there was a public (CNC?) that he could build the prototype from and that required the frame to be in two pieces.  I think that was a few production shops ago :)

This is all from a memory that doesn't work well.

Front main grills are 4 pieces (2 pieces each side), and then his fog grills are an additional 2 peices.

Ordering the total set would get you 6 pieces total.

This is too cool. I've been wanting these recessed grills forever. Once I get these installed it will finally complete my grand plan for the exterior mods on the Ghost....that is until the next too cool piece of kit comes along.....

Recessed grills, along with the split design, used to be a Pontiac desgn tradition dating back to the late 1950's. I was disappointed in the 2004 GTO when they came out the grill flush mounted. The aftermarket and factory makeover kits improved these car's looks quite a bit. I hope you are successful, as I am also interested......

The grills arrived to my office this morning. They look better than I expected even the foglights. I don't have a camera to take any pics right now. And unfortunately, my laptop is at the Geek Squad shop as it fell to a virus which crashed my hard drive over the weekend. They'll be able to recover my data files, thank goodness. Just I won't have my computer til the end of the week. So, the only time I can check the internet is when I'm here at work if I can break for a few minutes.

I'll try to squeeze in some time to take pics when I do the test fitting maybe this week and post them once I get my computer back from the shop.
