Has anyone heard anything new?

I just finished getting the GMPP installed last week.  Is there anyone that can help me by updating my Westers race tune in the Reston, VA area or should I pack my ECM and ship it back to Lyndon for reprograming?

Thanks

PM Joe and make arrangements to meet at either my house or his.  I am sure he will help you out.  He will have to contact Lyndon and it depends on what year your car is.

As has been said before, Lyndon's main thrust this time of year is cash performance work coming into his shop. IF and WHEN he has a tune specific to the GMPP hardware that he is fully satisfied with he'll probably let people know about it. As for shipping the ECU around, over time it may be more cost effective to buy a cheap used laptop, purchase HPTuners, and do the tune work via e-mail. There are a LOT of logistical benefits in doing so. First, if there are any "issues" with the tune or changes you want made he would want a record (known as a scan) of the ECM actually operating the car and that can't be done by sending in the ECU. Second, you will have no down time or US/Canada Customs issues/delays. Last, the main plugs on the wiring harness CAN be screwed up if one isn't careful and you WILL BE SCREWED if that happens, and THAT won't be warrantied !!!!!!!!!!!!

I work in Reston Towne Center everyday, not sure I could be much closer. I live in Manassas. Let me know how I can help. I have HP Tuners and know Lyndon reasonably well. First thing we need to do is get a scan of your current tune, I can email it to him for adjustments. I can only install it if it is a 2007 GXP, I don't have a license for anything else. We can license your car for about what you will pay for shipping, $100.

Sounds like you are in the building next to where I live.  I have a 2007 GXP so hopefully that can simplify things.  I have not installed my Westers ECM since they completed the GMPP installation and reprograming of my Stock ECM.  We should touch base and figure out the particulars.  I will send you my number.

I re-read your post, it looks like you want to update your Race tune.  Goat can do that since you have a 07, he'll need to send Lyndon a new reading of the ECM with the GMPP

I connected with Mr Nolan, we are working things out, I am in the L-3 building. Luckily he has a 2007 GXP so I can read it and download the new file pretty easily.

I can help here but I don't think it is worth it. I managed to talk with a service engineer from Opel (GM) dealership and he told me those sensors are on Opel Vectra OPC and I can order them. BUT the price is about $190 (550 RON) and they deliver it only on order which takes 1-3 weeks and the shipping will be another $100 from romania to us. Do you think those worth $500?

The improvement in the tune is not so great for that amount in my opinion and I decided to wait other updates from Lyndon rather than to spend $400 on sensors.

I did some research and I could find those sensors on some Fiat models and Alfa Romeo too, I could find them cheaper (something like maybe under $100 each) from salvage garages but then I would risk because I don't know for sure if they are working or are damaged.
The connectors I couldn't find them at all. So I decided to skip those sensors and spend money on other things.

Kelu,

Thank you for the numbers on the sensors. Not sure they are worth the $500 US either.  I too will wait to see what comes out of Lyndons Garage.  We all enjoy your racing stories and movies.

Thanks,
Sal

The jury is still out the need for sensors, Lyndon's tune with the stck sensors has always made more power than the GMPP, question is still if Lyndon can get any additional power with the new sensors, so far he has not been able to make any more. After he installed the new sensors on his wife's car he had to do quite a bit of tuning to get it back to where he was before he changed them. He can make the the GMPP set up equal the power of the race tune, not sure he can surpass it, not yet anyway. I figure for now I want new brakes, and the $500 is a good start.

Hrm. Wonder if there is a market for used GMPP tunes and sensors :)

I'll sell my GMPP sensors and tune and put that money towards Westers

lil goat,

I agree with you (especially about the brakes!) I'll be content with what I have now and give Lyndon sometime and see what he comes up with.

Well Spring is here and I just wonder if there has been any further development on the GMPP+ tune from Lyndon? I upgraded to the GMPP tune with the 3 bar sensors and  then had Lyndon put his tune on that. I have to admit I was disappointed to find that my previous Wester's tune with the 2.5 bar sensors was certainly faster. If it wasn't for those 3 bar sensors being installed, I switch back in a heartbeat. Or maybe has the non GMPP tune working with the 3 bar sensors now? Anyone care to enlighten?

looks like ~285whp is what everyone is putting out nowadays regardless of the sensors. Lyndon, Trifecta and PAW all running ~26psi

Hopefully Lyndon will take GMPP to the next level soon.

I don't have his e-mail but I messaged him about a tune for the MD MOD Meet but got no response. I have the new sensors too and would like a nice tune to go with my new exhaust when I go to "Joes Mod Shop" LOL.

For those that want to know what Lyndon can do should simply e-mail him. He always answers.

FWIW, I really do not feel that he is pushing further on the 3 bar issue. Regardless of which sensors, as Kenny says, 285whp seems to be the ceiling. TORQUE can be enhanced, but the turbo is limiting peak whp. On other boards people are thinking that 300whp is there, but nobody has gotten past 285. And, of course, a lot is dependent on which dyno is in play.

I have the gmpp tune. I am going to westers in April if I get my passport in time. He will play with mine for a few days. Maybe he can get it figured out. Then I am going to the Mod Meet.

Use the colder plugs, tighter plug gap (.025-.030").
We made improvements on the GMPP tune (check dyno charts).
Not as dramatic as the stock tune to our tune, of course, but both yielded
similar peak numbers, despite what someone on a forum may have quoted.

As soon as we are paypal'd we can return your tune.

Im using Denso ITV20 Iridiums which are the same heat range as the AC 102's that my 07 originally had in it. I had to tighten the gap from the preset gap on the Denso's to about .032 since I was seeing spark blowout at the .042 preset gap.
