So, I was shooting the $hit with some fellas...
« on: May 10, 2009, 09:00:35 PM »
and I was telling them what I am getting for hp and my boost is steady around 23. Then, two guys go "Dude, you should be making a lot more hp with that kind of boost!". They ask, "Where are you getting it tuned?" I say, The best tuner known to man Westers Garage in  :ca:. They say, "I am sure he is good, but, the atmosphere in  :ca: is different than it is here in Texas. You should be getting 300hp out of it easy." I did not know how to reply. So I ask you studs of tuning...do they have a legit point? Thanks!

Given that it is hotter and more humid in Texas then Canada, and disregarding altitude as I don't know what the altitude is in either location, I would say that you will be getting less performance in Texas then you would in Canada.  Given that 23psi of boost will be the same in either location, relatively speaking, the change in temp and humidity will have a negative effect on performance.  The temp will cause the air molecules to be less dense as does an increase in humidity.  The boost will help to increase air density counteracting the temp but the humidity will still displace the air molecules.  The temp will also play into how well your inter cooler will drop the boost air temp.  All in all I would expect that your car will have a lower performance number in Texas then Canada.

PS: The use of "dude" by people tends to decrease their credibility as far as I am concerned, but dude thats just me.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude !!!!!!!!!!!!! Like, you have, like, had smoke blown up your shorts. TOTALLY. He was like "Dude, you should have more power" and you were like "huh?" 'cause Texas air is different than B.C. air. AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!

Were his "baggies" hanging above or below his butt?

This sounds like the VERY short conversation (I had a couple years ago) when I was asked what kind of kit car mine was. I was driving a white GT6+ that day. Do you realize that is "stupid" was painful the streets would be littered with people writhing in pain.

Watsamatta wid "dude"!!? If I stop saying dude then half my vocabulary disappears... Anyway, I typically get 22 to 24 psi from the BSR tune. I live in the never too hot never too cold region of Baja Norte, about an hour south of San Diego, or 20 minutes if I'm in the GXP.... the dude abides..... :brnout:

Well you can ask Wester's to retune your tune to give you as much as he can without the car going into limp mode, because I know someone here in SoCal that gets 25 boost with Wester's. But you got to remember we have small turbo's so your friends might have been thinking of big ones when they used there comparison.

The altitude where Lyndon is has a huge effect on boost, he is at 2700 feet, he see's lower boost levels with denser air. These dude don't no crap, boost levels of there own accord mean zero, zilch, nada. The, what is the boost being applied to? If you put 23 psi into a V-8 it would make a 1000 hp and explode, and by the way on a DynoJet dyno you most likely are making 300 hp or very close to it, but it is torque that matters, we make more torque than a V-8 Mustang most are seeing in the 320 to 330 range, that is a huge amount of torque.

It's not the altitude, though... it's the ATMOSPHERE!

Dude I think his baggie is where he was gettin the stuff to blow the smoke up his shorts.

I get the kit car thing all the time with my TR7 that and
Q "what kind of car is that?"
A "It's a Triumph TR7"
Q "who makes it?"
A "Triumph"
Q "yeah but who makes Triumph?"
Usually I just say no one makes them anymore.

And then we tell them that the Triumph was made by the same company that makes Jaguar...their eyes glaze over and they say something like "wow...that's too cool...."
