New Eyes for the Mad Hornet
« on: May 31, 2009, 10:54:58 AM »
Well after seeing the new headlamps for the GXP coupe at Mecca III, and confirmation on the part numbers courtesy of Dengel, I decided to upgrade the appearance of my headlamps and remove some of the chrome bling!  After a quick order from GMPartsDirect and about $500 my new light came.  Here is a quick shot of the difference between the old and the new.  It will evaporate out over the next few days.  I really like the new look and think it give the car a much meaner appearance.  The lights were very simple to install, 4 screws and 1 plug in connector was all that needed to be changed.  I will have to drive around a bit to see if I need to aim the lights any better.

Old on the left New on the right

The Finished Product

INFORMATION:

The lights are 2 different parts (Right and Left)  I'm not sure which is which but these are the part numbers to use:

25973530
25973531

The lights will come with the bulbs and everything, so you will have an extra set.  The install was pretty straight forward though.  This gives the car a much slicker look.

Those do look slick, they're kinda like the black headlights on a Sky RL. They look awesome on a yellow car.

They look great.  I just wish they were a little less expensive.

Agreed. Love the look.  But it seems like you can paint the housings and maybe even install projectors for $500.  :idk:

Alot of people have posted that with painting the housings alot of cracks / spider webs start developing on the paint. So its really hard to paint them.

Plus my buddy did some bake and mod work to his lights and they never sealed up quite right after the fact.  I was looking at HID retrofitting and was quoted prices in the 700 -1000 range.  The biggest thing I wanted was the black housing and decided that the factory lights would be the best way to go.  I am quite pleased with the results.

I'd done the bake and paint option with the original lights, then after the accident, opted to not do that again. Did the same as you, ordered the black lights...and am thrilled with them. Just replaced the only remaining original front fog light, it was badly rock scarred, now the front end looks like new again. Was well worth the $$!

Yeah they look awesome, I sent the part #'s to my contact so hoping he could maybe get me the pair for 300-400$ or so since you said GMparts was 500$.

Very nice. Now it really does look like a mad hornet.

The bake and paint can be a pain. I did it to retro my projectors. I love them, but I wouldn't go through all that just to paint them.
