GM Roadster Virtual Tuner tech details
« on: June 11, 2009, 10:40:47 AM »
So Tammy was over last night and Martin tuned her car with the "GM Roadster Virtual Tuning System"

Basically it's a netbook (tiny laptop) and what seems to be HP Tuners with a GM Roadster sticker on it. He sends you a 50 foot long ethernet cable so you can hook to your internet connection and run it outside. You hookup everything, then call Martin, and he logs into the computer remotely.

When he logs in the screen goes black so you can't see him work his ummm "magic" or see the software that he is running. We turn the key to the start position, turn off the headlights, and he gets started. Took 1 hour while we hung out inside watching Top Gear and drinking some wine.

Tammy will share the results, I am just filling in the techno details for anyone interested.

Honestly it's a cool concept, I would love for Lyndon to tune my car this way if I had it strapped to a dyno and he could access it remotely. Has anyone tried that with him? Would be fairly simple with the vast amount of remote control PC applications out there.

I'd be real interested to see her Dyno Results at Crazy Horse again.

Yeah, I'm thinking of going there with her and getting my car done again, making sure to let it warm up this time.

So he isn't doing anything other than what I'm doing, uploading a tune to the computer via HPTuners and I don't consider myself a tuner.    The hour is probalby because he does a full read of the ECM (20 minutes), then gets on the web browser and sends the tune to himself.  Looks through some corn sites on your ISP and then uploads the new tune (30 seconds)  haha

Nope
but for people who don't have HP Tuners, or someone close by that does, it's a nice benefit.

There is no way I would let that moron connect anything to my car, much less use my internet connection. Good luck. And for an hour, WTF? I am glad I have HP Tuners.

I would never let him touch my car either. It would be cool to have Lydon do something like this. I would buy HP Tuners and put my car on the dyno for a few hours for something like this

If you have a laptop with HP Tuners with an internet connection, it's pretty easy.
There are a bunch of different ways you could share the computer for free
Windows remote Assistance, Remote Desktop, VNC, LogMeIn.com Etc......

Just a matter of the remote person being Technically savvy enough to leverage them.
