How hot does our Cat get?
« on: July 03, 2009, 09:30:09 PM »
What is the max temp that our Cat gets during a high speed run?
Personally I've see reading on the DH of 1700*+ but really want to know how hot it can get?
Thanks

I've seen some logs with 1800-1900 temps. But that pid is simply a formula gm uses to guess the reading. If you're idling and its reading 1000F, if you shut your car off and start it back up it'll start warming up from 0F again.

Not with the DH at least the one I have reading the Cat.  If you turn the vehicle off and then restart the temp will be a few degrees off(lower) then the last temp the DH was reading.  Even cold my DH will read the Cat at ambient temp when I first start the vehicle.
Just more wondering on how hot it does get since I remember someone posted they wraped the exhaust and Cat and it bascially melted the wrap.

I had an EGT gauge and i would see from 1600-1800 during some hard runs.

How long took to make it like this?
Do you not recommend anymore to wrap the exhaust?

Yes - wrap it all with the DEI Titanium wrap to decrease resonance - see the thread below.  I wouldn't use the foil backed blanket - it only took 2 days for it to look like that!
