« on: July 14, 2009, 11:20:28 PM »
Well I got the rest of my Solstice Sound deadened installed on Sunday. It took rudeboy and I about (8) hr.Think I learned how to take all my panels and seats out.Got it back together and took it for a short ride w/Don "Rudeboy" and the Top down. Even with top down you (I) could tell the differance. Sounds 200%better with top up. Thanks Don GR8 job .I will stop up to SQQ him on Wednesday.
Don took a lot of Pictures and wrote lots of notes.

:dancing: :dancing: to the Music now that I can hear it clear. :yay:

So you installed additional deadening material under the carpets?  Do you happen to have any pictures?  It would be nice to have a bit more quiet with the top up but I seem to catch more wind noise from the top that anything.

It was my pleasure - definitely a fun car to work on and an easy guy to work with. When we pulled the guts out we discovered that the stock vibration damper on the floor had lifted up in places, was peeling at the edges and had never been pressed down properly in the contours - areas of it were just damping the air underneath. After tearing out the easy stuff I determined that it was asphalt based - really pretty shocking. We decided to bite the bullet and take it all out. The nice thing is that asphalt melts at 180°F and the residue cleans up nicely with mineral spirits. I worked on the passenger side with a heat gun and a putty knife and Bobby did the driver's side with an acetylene torch and a putty knife :) Two hours later we were down to clean metal and were then able to treat the surface with nice clean CLD Tiles.

The brown stuff isn't rust - it's asphalt residue that stained the joint caulking. I really can't tell you how disappointed I was to find asphalt in this car. The stock vibration damper on the center hump is a very high quality material.

After the CLD Tiles we added a layer of 1/4" closed cell foam (CCF) to the flat areas of the floor:

Finally, we put down a layer of mass loaded vinyl (MLV) that went partway up the center hump, sides and foot well.

We also treated the back wall. We left the trunk alone to keep the exhaust note that Bobby wants to hear.

Now I am S/C'd wondering what is being done about noise coming thru the firewall?

This looks like a project that I will be doing this fall for sure. Now with the Solo Mach exhaust and S/C I would like to cut down on the interior noise and the bonus will be what it does for the stereo sound quality. I am sure that I am getting a fair bit of vibration/noise up thru the floorboard from the resonator on the exhaust which is just tight to the passenger footwell.

Hoping as all of you experiment with the installation  we will come up with a nice package and instructions to go with it. Keep up the good work all !!

Rudeboy and I did my whole car in May - it was his first Kappa - he is refining the process and components for just such a kit.  We did the whole cockpit, rear wall, full trunk, doors and hood.  I am SO happy with how it came out - the car has zero rattles, the audio is phenomenal even at 75 with the top down.  My exhaust note is now where it belongs - behind me rather than underneath me and all around me.  Plus I am running RPI's GT exhaust and the catless DP - so the deadening is huge.

I will document Goat's doors when we do them and post pics.

Wow, you are running a catless setup and it's quieted that down?  Yeah, I want to know more about the kit when it's ready for sure.  It's nice to be able to have a conversation without all the road noise.
Great post!

I'm definitely pleased that jonymac is still happy with the results a few months later but I'm even more impressed that Mrs. jonymac approves of the change.

I am interested in this...can it be done at the meet in October?  I would love to get that exhaust sound behind me rather than under me.
