Does Your Trunk Have One Of These ??
« on: August 27, 2009, 12:24:20 PM »
I went to the local Saturn dealer to get the trunk carpet replaced under warranty due wear from the convertible top not being aligned properly. When the technician showed me the new trunk carpet it had what appears to be a speaker cover on the drivers side by the interior trunk release. I have a 2007 Sky Redline so he checked with the parts department and they told him this is the only one available. They believe that the old trunk carpet part number has been replaced with the new one and that is why I received the trunk carpet with the vent built in. The vent is to allow better performance for the Body Pressure Relief Valve which allows air to escape when you close the trunk. The part number he gave me for the Sky is 20782873. The retail price is $126.72. I helped the tech remove and install the carpet and other than removing one bolt on each side and the tire kit it was very easy to do. I do recommend that you have someone help you with it so you don't scratch your car.

Now he talks German, when I thought I'm starting to understand him.

Negativ.

Sorry Kelu,

There is this cover story. It is being referred to as a vent to help the trunk close easier by pushing the trapped air out.

It is in reality this a top secret developmental project for OPEL that was released into production by mistake.

There is a KAPPA version of TRUNKMONKEY

http://www.trunkmonkey.com/

This is a vent but, it is for the KAPPA version of Trunkmonkey.

If you read my post it clearly states that it was replaced under warranty. If someone was interested in purchasing one I posted the part number and retail price.

I did see that in other forum posts and was amazed at how some did not read your post correctly. I do think most of us who cracked on trunkmonkey did read it clearly with understanding. I am going to check with my dealer when the wife's Acadia goes in again for a TSB on busy shift syndrome.

Have you had the opportunity to load the trunk with the top down and notice a difference?

Obviously one could not stuff things on that side in packing the trunk with the top down or such would block the vent.
Mine is most difficult to close top down and trunk stuffed, just nowhere for the trapped air to go. Basic physics.

Thanks for alerting us to this.

I hardly ever put anything in the trunk other than the top. With the top up it seems a lot easier to close the trunk and with the top down it seem to be a little easier than it was before I had the vent opening.  :2c:
