Anyone have experience with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's?
« on: September 05, 2009, 02:25:21 PM »
I am looking into getting new tires and I have heard from a few people that these are really good tires.  I also really like the tread pattern and the sidewalls look really strong.  Anyone have experience using them??

Many, MANY, moon ago I used Vredesteins on an Accord coupe. Loved 'em then. I had forgotten all about them, but I will be looking at them now. Found them for about $170 each. That is CHEAP. The reviews on the interwebs are pretty good.

I'm running Vredesteins on my 07 GXP.   They are not that tread pattern though.   They ride good, handle very well and great in the rain.   I found them on EBAY out of Atlanta.   I think I paid $110 each.  I would buy them again without question.

I need 255/45-18 fronts and 275/40-18 for the rear.  I have read all good reviews on them...let us know what your wheel manufacturer says.

Steve:  I have not used them but a few friends who are Porsche freaks use them and give them high reviews.  They may be the best tire out there for the price.  There is a large tire outlet in Atlanta that has specials on them all the time.  Since I live close to Atlanta I have been thinking of trying them when I need new tires.

Let us know when you make your decision.

Interesting, even with that crazy tread pattern, you can do a full tire rotation.

But you can't "flip" them.

On the ebay auction it states

Quote from: Ebay Ad
Another great feature is this tire is asymmetrical, which means the tires can be rotated from side to side. This eliminates the tire rotation problems found when using two different size directional tires.

Which I was taking as left to right, not just front to back

True, but what I was referring to was flipping them inside/outside on the rim.

Yea very cool feature for a tire like this.  I am liking them more and more as I read up on them.  I am anxious to hear what that supplier price is...hopefully Frank will have some information on them soon.

Approx $150 each IS cheap for a good tire, and for an 18" it is even better. I have sent an e-mail to Vredestein asking them about cold weather performance. My guess is that the response will be not to use below ~35deg F. We'll see.

I agree...that price is VERY good for that size and performance.  Keep us posted with the cold weather information.

Steve:

Look up Bones Enterprises in Tucker, GA on the internet.  You can ask them prices on the specific size you want.  If I remember correctly, they are available all the way up to 20"

Well, here is the answer from Vredestein;

Dear Mr. Robert Buxbaum,

This is the answer from our Tyre Information Centre to your question:

The Ultrac Sessanta is a high performance tyre. This tyre has great performance on wet and dry road surface. This tyre is a typical summer tyre, this means that this tyre performs best on not too low temperatures. The tipping point lays with 7 degree Celsius. When you are driving and the temperature is lower than that then I'll advise you the Wintrac 4 Xtreme. This tyre has also great handling characteristics but the only difference with the Sessanta is that the Wintrac 4 Xtreme handles best in temperatures lower than 7 degree Celsius. The compound of this tyre is different as a result of that this tyre performances better in lower temperatures.

We hope this answers your question. In case you have more questions, please don't hesitate to mail us, we are always prepared to answer them.

Kind regards,
Vredestein Banden B.V.

Geoffrey Gokoelsing

WOW, 7 degrees C is 45 degrees F !!!!!!!!!!!! I know the OEM tires turn to stone in cold weather, and these probably will also. But, I may get them anyway in the spring.

285 treadwear.  No better cold weather performance than any other UHP street tire. Sounds like a silica compound.

Meh.  Does not give me wood. . . .
