Sound deadener at the MD. Mod Meet
« on: September 16, 2009, 11:23:47 AM »
I have been chatting with Don over the past couple of days. He will be at the mod meet on Saturday, he is bringing my stuff with him. He may be able to prep some stuff before the meet. I figured I would put this up so we can see who wants to have stuff done. If you want to have some help please sign up and send an email to Don, Don@sounddeadenershowdown.com so he knows what up, you will also need to pay him in advance.
So far I know of these folks.

Me
Spiky
Bryan Nolan
Critter, maybe.

I think both jonymac and 1 LIL NDN will be there, they are very experienced as well, maybe we can get them to help.

Like I said there will be two vendors inside my car on Saturday, it would have to be Sunday.  We will see what reply I get back from Don

I'll probably be trying to get the remainder done on Sunday.  Hopefully we get a lot done on Saturday.

Steve if we get all the stuff cut on Saturday the hard part will be done, installing it is not difficult just cutting everything to fit is a pain, if that is done then the rest is just take your time and stick it in place.

I'm open to the possibility of being there both Saturday and Sunday. I'll set up some sort of sign up list to see when folks want me there. If we can do several cars at the same time, or at least in sequence, we can cut way down on the amount of time each car will take.

I'm happy to produce Africa pieces (inner door skin access hole covers, name coined by Jim), for anybody who buys a kit. Please be aware that to work best, the really need to be held down with self tapping screws. A shot of primer and a few drops of thread lock should prevent rusting, but some people prefer not to do this.

Africa pieces on me! :)

Well there you go guys, the so called africa pieces are the ones made from the aluminum roof flashing that Don does not usually supply, they take quite some time to cut and make. Don is really giving you guys a leg up. Just making these took us about an 45 minutes to an hour to do when we did mine. You all lucked out that Don has decided to come both Saturday and Sunday. Those that get to hear the improvement at the meet will be impressed I promise.

Don? Don? what the goat gets no love for putting this all together, story of my life. That is why Rodney was my hero, he didn't get no respect either.

I am glad this all worked out, Don is a great guy with a great product. He has put several years into designing this system, and we are very lucky he lives close by. He sells his products worldwide. I know you guys will be very happy with it.

I'm interested in doing the doors and possibly the floor (with no asphalt removal thank you) and backwall if we go with a step by step walk through as a group.  That would be fun and I know my kappa would come out of it driveable.  It is a great opportunity, I agree.

I guess doing the group thing would be dependent on wx.  Saturday works best for me personally.

You named the parts - "Africa pieces" and I have to admit, it took me a full day to figure out what the hell you were talking about. You were also the impetus behind trying to do this as a group effort. (Jeez, some people are high maintenance :D)

The thing is you did figure it out, so it must make sense. If you look at the metal piece it is shaped just like Africa. what else would you call it? They needed a name they are a key part of want makes the system work so well, and a bit of a pain in the butt. I do need to screw mine down, jonymac didn't tell me about that part. He is the one who really deserves the credit for getting Don involved in this dubious adventure. I have to thank Spliky for trusting me and being number 1 to sign up and get the ball rolling. If you want to do this all are welcome, just don't forget to send Don and email and some money. Don@sounddeanenershowdown.com. I also recommend reading his website and about the different materials, it is a quick read. It will give you an idea on what you are doing and why.

I read the site...it was very useful and informative.  I am very confident that it will work, and for the price of the kit, you can't really go wrong.  We are all going to do it step by step together, right?

You will be supervised, there is a thread started by jonymac that has complete details and pictures. I recommend printing a copy, it is what he and I used when we did my doors. The write up and pictures are very good. Do to the nature of what you are doing and the space, it is pretty much a one man job. There will be several installs going on at the same time. Like I have said the hardest part is cutting out all the pieces. That will be done using the first panels we cut as a template for everyone else, trust me this makes it a LOT easier. You won't have to hold up a big sheet of matt and then trace the door on it and cut it out. If you ever made a collage in school you can do this it's not rocket surgery. If you ever did macrame in school please stay home you are weird.

HA HA never did macrame LOL...so I hope I am not weird!  Let's all at least try and park side to side when we do this...so we can each see what the other is doing.  Most of us are starting from scrath, with the exception of lil goat.

Parking close is a good idea. One thing to keep in mind is that even those these cars a pretty small when in one piece, disassembling them results in a pretty big pile of parts. It might be a good idea for everyone to bring a plastic tarp to stack everything on. Ziplock bags are a good idea for keeping the little stuff safe. I'm looking forward to this.

That's a great idea...Joe might also have some tarps at his place.  I'll shoot him a call later and ask him.  We don't have much room as it is to transport tarps LOL.  I am also looking forward to this.

One of those $2 drop cloths from Target should be more than enough. Almost fit in your pocket :)
