issues with a tune
« on: October 07, 2009, 01:00:51 PM »
A few  months ago I decided to buy a tune for my car.  Because of the price  I went with the PCMforLess tune.
Everything was great and the tune definitely made a huge improvement vs stock.  however I noticed that the car randomly while at WOT would make a ticking sound It would only last for a second or two and would go away.
I contacted PCMForless and I was told that i might be the quality of gas in my area.  I only use Shell V power( 91 octane here in ELP TX) PCMforless was very helpful and told me to send back  my ecm    and they would  back off the timing a bit.  After about a week I got my computer back   the clicking sound is still there , not as loud and not as often as before but I still get it very randomly.  Is this Knocking or could it be the clutch slipping.   I am going to switch from Shell to maybe Chevron   just to see if gas quality might be the  problem.  Also would adding a Octane booster/fuel additive help my problem assuming it might be engine knock. I just dont want to damage my engine

thanks for your help guys

The high pressure fuel pump on the GXP is located right before the wipers in the cowl, and it is a known issue that it ticks, some louder than others.

Knock on the other hand I would not describe as a tick more of a rapid screaching click for lack of a better term.

the sound im talking about sounds like a clicking sound kind of like a hammer hitting metal for about a second  .  It seems to happen more often when I downshift and go back WOT.

To me knock sounds like someone shaking a spray paint can, there is only one octane booster that really does much that is easy to find, the Torco is great if you can find it but the NOS is pretty common and around here $12.95 a can. I have tried it and it works, be it just a tad expensive for everyday use it may help you diagnose your problem.
