Has any painted their engine cover? If so what kind of paint did you use?

I used a high temp primer and then a standard duplicolor base coat.  No clear coat after.  Has been on for a couple years with no fading or heat damage.  There are many of us that have done it.  Most posts with photos are on the big board.

Standard spray paints... the engine cover doesn't get hot enough to need the high heat stuff.

I used Krylon also. I used high temp primer and paints, just to be careful. Colors came out vivid and I added clear to mine after.

I used standard automotive body paint.  Over 2  years ago and not a single problem.  No high temp special paints used.

Deepbluegxp painted mine with the same type of paint he used on his and it looks just as good as it did 2 years ago.

I painted mine with Duplicolor, it looked fine, then threw it away when I got the powder coated valve cover from DDM Works, but I know not everyone likes that look. I hate the look of the engine cover, I think the engine runs cooler without it but can't prove it.
Mine is red.

The solstice performance book also suggested removing the plastic cover and sound damper, also citing better cooling.

How difficult is it to paint that cover like that smartin? Did you do it, or did deepbluegxp? (assuming that's why you are giving thanks out)

I notice too in the background you have what looks to be the part around the stereo and climate controls painted....what did that take, and do you have any 'after' pics?

LOVE that engine cover Norm!! Wish I knew someone that could do flames like that. Any idea on what it would cost to get a body shop to do that kinda job? Doesn't look like much material, but the labour I'm sure is a couple hours anyways?

Nice self plug on the diffuser.  :D

DBG did it and he did an excellent job! It was difficult because he had to remove all the paint Frank and I put on it that bubbled in the dew. Don't ask.

I have been debating on having the stripes on my Redline actually painted on - and your car has convinced me.  That looks great!  And yes, the pinstripe really sets it off.

I see you're in OH - who did the paint for you? Marion isn't incredibly far from me here in Hooterville....

Interestingly enough, if you look at the cost of the stickers (kit #2 seen here - http://www.autotrimdesign.net/content.jsp?pageCode=Parts_Saturn) the custom paint job really wasn't unreasonable.  Your car looks awesome!
