Hello,

There is a fine balance between having the weather cold enough to make your engine perform at it's peak and having the tires warm enough to give you traction. What is this exact outside temperature that gives you the best 1/4 mile timeslips?
I am not asking for any theories without PURE actual experience on what the temperature was outside when you did your best 1/4 Mile times at the track. I am hoping people that reply to this post have went to the track more than 20 times and have ran the 1/4 mile drag more than 100 times.
Also only after you have posted your experience on this topic, can you explain some of the technical reasons why the temperature you have mentioned is optimal?

Thank you!!!

It's not like it's something you can control, so other than a "fun fact" is there any real point?

50's to mid 60's, humidity matters.

My experiences weren't lower than 20 Celsius (68F) during the day and night.
At that temp I got my best times.

As an exemple: on first day was 20 Celsius (68F) and I did my best time 13.5, the next day it was 30 Celsius (86F) I couldn't get lower than 13.7 even I had better and less gas in the tank.

13.30s (exhaust and tune update added) I did it in the evening after all day I was struggling to match my previous time of 13.5 (with only tune)

I haven't googled - but I'd bet some strip nerd has put together some data on temp & humidity trends

Cooler is better for the engine, hotter is better for a sticky track.  Kelu wouldn't be able to experience that from the videos I've seen.    Most of my runs were made around 80F and about 75% humidity.

Well my personal experience was that when it was 50 Farenheight I ran 13.145 to 13.332 on Nov. 1st.

When it was 65 Farenheight I ran Mid 13's on Nov 8th, with the passenger seat removed it even got worse.   This Sunday it should be around 42 Farenheight, so let's see what happens.

Yes, you can actually control the weather, if it's the temperature you want, then you go to the track.  :  )

lol

And you got me thinking - a cool day with FULL SUN and a high UV index would prolly be ideal -a nice cold, dense charge, and plenty of solar energy to soften/sticky the track.

JL, and perhaps a track that dug 1025 feet below the surface so you can be operating at sea level.

Kelu,

What I mean is the tracks I've seen in your videos aren't prepared the they are in the states.

Quote
The Track
The dragstrip is a 60 feet wide strip of specially prepared asphalt. Concrete safety guardwalls line both sides of the racing surface from the starting area to far beyond the finish line. The starting area has a concrete surface 150 feet long to withstand the harsh wear from spinning tires.

The track’s launch pad preparation also plays an important role in how well and how hard cars can launch. The launch area is usually prepped with traction compounds to add to the stickiness of the track. A well prepped track will definitely help drop 60 foot times and result in lower 1/4 mile times.

Acknowledged,  :agree:
Even so, when I had the chance to go to the track and they were spraying it at the launch area didn't helped because the organizers said that thing only reacts if is hot outside over 32 Celsius (90F).
This is were I live, Africa of tuning  :barf:

Even so, I didn't saw anyone from there with 1.90s in 60ft with stock tires as I did

....at Norwalk they only have to dig down 719 feet! (plus aboot 4 inches for the rubber on the tarmac)

Around here when they spray a track and it cool, the use a blow torch to warm it up in the launch area.

The best time we got in the Volvo was ~47*F.  Traction wasn't an issue...all wheel drive & all. -J
