SSR wheels for Kappa on closeout for $129
« on: December 18, 2009, 03:29:45 PM »
This is a SICK deal. This is a really lightweight wheel, and it is SSF semi solid forged construction. Which is almost as good as forged.

I believe Dr Disco has these wheels.

The only thing is that because it's a closeout, it means they are discontinuing the wheels so if in the future I break one, i'm screwed. I could buy a spare.

what do you guys think? the only other wheel this light is the OZ but it's over twice the price

Just noticed that the OZ ultraleggaras are also on closeout. so those are going bye bye.

the only wheels NOT on closeout that are under 20 lbs are TR motorsport C2 at 19.6 and they are also $129

Yep that's what I have, the biggest disadvantage to these wheels is they were a special run for Tire Rack, you can not get them anywhere else. I tried to get some 9" rear's direct from SSR they said sure if you order 40 sets minimum. These are really good wheels, and that price is insane! I may buy another set for my winter tires.

Hey guys, stop this please, this drives me insane.  :gaah:

Around here I can get ONE OZ rim to the price of 4 of those. Now I found a 20% discount on the OZ but common would still cost me about $1500 for a set  :banghead:

You buy SSR as winter rim, huh?

I have a question. If I converted to a single lug wheel hub, would I have a larger selection of wheels to choose from?

Also what does it take to make that conversion

Absolutely not. And it gets worse - more money, extra complexity, and no benefit. You will never find a lighter wheel than the SSR for less than $500+ each. If they had 10-11" wide versions I would have them in a nano second. Buy FIVE of them and be happy !!!!!

Hey !!! If somebody wants my chrome OEM wheels I'll get a set of SSRs myself !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just thinking long term. I assume aftermarket wheels for our rare bolt pattern will eventually just dissapear

Cobalt wheels use the same bolt pattern. Can we use spacers to match the offset?

Maybe. If this is an attempt to find wheels that will STAY in production it may be good to consider that many wheel models can go in and out of production pretty quickly.

Yeah it's kinda turned into more than that...

Just got me thinking about the long term future of wheel availability in the next 10 years.

I found Oz Ultras for the cobalt with +38mm offset if I can use spacers to get the proper offset, then i'll be fine, because wheels for the cobalt will exist for a lot longer than the kappa.

Spacers aren't heavy? Wouldn't those put back the weight gain.

A little more weight with a spacer is better than the car on jacks in the garage forever :)

a spacer shouldn't be that heavy. a wheel adaptor with it's own lugs would definitely be heavy.

Wheel spacers can help, but require longer wheel studs. Assuming negative events, IF a wheel is damaged then there will be other stuff damaged as well !!!!!!!!! If the SSRs are acceptable, at this point they are SO cheap that purchasing extras will not be as painful. Further assuming that you'll stay with 8" rims you'll be all set. But if wider wheels are in your future, then don't sweat the few pounds, stay with stock wheels (available for cheap all the time) and save the money for wider wheels in the future. CCWs may seem expensive, but since they are three piece wheels they can be fixed if damaged, widths can be changed, and since they are not "common" could hold some resale value in the future!!

I have spacers and they are a few ounces each.

If I ever get that serious about racing, I will keep the SSRs for the street and fattys for the track.

I'm not worried about wheel studs, solstice book shows it's pretty easy to pop some in. Don's solstice had 1" spacers in the back according to CCW.

So yeah. I think I'm just gunna order the SSRs with Direzzas for my street tires. My stockers are not going to last much longer.
