Product review - inversion table
« on: February 12, 2010, 06:12:46 PM »
Inversion table. I bought one today at Dick's Sporting Goods for $200. The product is better than the assembly instructions !!! After discussing this with two orthopedic surgeons, two physical therapists, a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, (can you tell I have a few back "issues"?) and viewed quite a few discussion forums, there were very few down sides shared. Mainly, some people's backs are SO screwed up (even after surgery) that they had problems right away and got rid of their tables.

After assembly, I watched the included DVD about how to use the table as well as the does and don't. I restricted my angle to about 45deg and time to about two sessions of 5 minutes. I could feel the pull at the belt line (numerous problems there) right away (as expected) and felt fine will "hanging" and after getting back to vertical. Now that I am sitting at the computer, it has taken longer before my back started to bother me. I'm glad I bought it, and I am planning on using it at least once a day. The "fun" will be after a a week or so of acclamation before I am hanging by my ankles. THAT should be interesting.

I feel for ya man, wifey and  I was checking out that table on-line and she wants one also for her ailing back, but her koo koo kiropractor will tell her not to get it so she can give her $$ to him instead.

Snaponbob...I'm a Doctor of Physical Therapy...have been for 15 years...worked with pro football and baseball and the Olympic games among others...inversion tables are essentially the equivilent of a home traction unit that PTs and chiros use on a daily basis...lots of problems in the spine come from compression issues...not so much as a result on compression of the spinal components themselves but those structures which the spine protects...mainly the nerves...if the inversion unit helps, then great...pain is your body's way of saying something is wrong and a reasonable method of reducing that pain is appropriate...Patrick

Thirty years ago I had a problem with a pinched nerve in my neck. I was prescribed neck traction. The set up was a pull-release-pull type. The sessions were 30 minutes each. FELL ASLEEP after 10-15 minutes each time. Felt SO good. (Tried one that attaches to the top of a door, but not as easy.) Seems like traction is nearly AVOIDED these days. Lawyers mainly.

As for the coat rack comment earlier, it is understandable. I have had a hard time staying with a program that a PT put me on for rotator cuff problems because a) boring, b) often REALLY painful, and c) my short attention span. After a second PT gave me a completely different exercise (notice the singular) there has been an amazing change and as I start to bring back in some of the first set of exercises I am able to drive my Sky again. Given my back issues as well, and the positive results of the table (even after just one day) and the exercises, the attention span issue has been overcome. BTW, a recumbent exercise bike will be here is a few days. Being the victim of my own maladies, I have been nearly completely inactive since Christmas. NOT fun, so staying "on the program" will be a lot easier.

Already fell off a ladder (had no idea how expensive an e-room visit could be!!!) 5 weeks ago. Not to concerned with the bike (I've used them) or the table (basically ONE moving part and I can handle that) as the fall was face first onto concrete from 8 feet and the exercise location is carpeted and there are HANDLES !!!!!!!!!

Hey -- at least that dumbass has a chance of working his way over to the little porch over the front door !!!!!!!!!!! Really nice of the guy with the camera to take the shot instead of helping the guy, huh?

Now Bob, how many people have you seen put down the camera to help?  Especially if they have an embarrasing shot!

Jack, I still use it from time to time. If I were to do it again, I would have popped the extra bucks for a Teeter. http://www.teeter-inversion.com/teeter-ep-series-inversion.asp

 :agree:
I have the teeter and have been using it for about 6 months (on and off as required).
It has helped me enormously - definitely worth the price of admission.
