What products work for you?
« on: January 01, 2009, 06:02:06 AM »
Everyone has their favorite cleaning /detailing products. Some people are also a little more enthusiastic then others when it comes to brands.  As the title eludes to, which products are you using and why?

I mainly stick to Poorboy's World for most of detailing needs.  Most of their products are easy on and easy off.  Their polishes, sealant and waxes can also all be applied with my Porter Cable buffer which saves me a LOT of time...

Zaino here.  Only because I'm a lemming...  but it seems to work pretty well for me.  I'm not a "fanatic" per se.  I've never used their interior products, for example.  Not that I won't give 'em a try someday.

Mequire's top-of-the-line products is what I use right now, however, I agree with Mike and 2kwk4u that Poorboys and Zaino are great also.

Not a fan off Ice at all, it works well but doesn't last very long. I use Poorboys polishes, I have a 3M polish you have to buy at an auto body paint store for really bad scratches, I use Frenzy detail spray and wax/sealant and there interior spray is the best I have used. I used the Poorboys wax and sealant it looked great but it water spotted very badly for me, I hate water spots. I have not tried the Poorboys paste wax yet. I also use a water softener for an RV on my hose to soften the water, helps a lot I have really hard water. I use my foam gun to apply soap, I love it, spray the car with nice clean super foaming soap, any good car wash soap works fine. Then use a bucket with clean water to rinse the microfiber sponge as you go. I can wash the car in no time. I blow dry the car with a leaf blower then wipe it down with micro fiber.

NXT is a whole line of products from Meguiar's. I was specifically referring to the NXT liquid wax, but I also use the NXT car wash, NXT speed detailer, and NXT spray wax. It's slightly more expensive than their Gold Class line but I think the results are drastically different. It also smells really good which to me is a plus can sometimes the summer time Jersey air can be a bit much

Meguires has a whole line of Pro products that make the auto parts stuff look silly, check Autogeek.net ( by the way Rhys Millen is sponsored by Meguires and they sent me all the NXT they had because they don't use it, they use the Pro stuff) it is still sitting on my shelf.

Checked it out I'm going to try the Pro products out based on your recomendation! Seems like the NXT line costs more than double what the Pro line costs, I'm guessing this is all due to the associated marketing costs for the line???

I have tried almost all (except Wolfdogs dog rocket product) and poorboys lasts the longest and looks the best.  Just an opinion but you really should try it out.

What Poorboy's do you recommend?? I've been on their forums and seems everyone has a different opinion. My Sky is black would you suggest the red/blue past combo?? Seems to be a popular choice for dark colored cars.

Check out their website:   Poorboy's World

Here's what I recommend for new users:

Spray & Wipe
Profesional Polish
EX Sealant (dark cars) / EX-P (light cars)
Black Hole (dark cars) / White Diamond (light cars)

All of these can be applied by hand, but you get much better results with a PC Buffer.

I'm slowly working on an in depth, no holes barred, detailed instruction for taking your car through the detailing paces.  If you want a sneak preview, become a Lifetime Supporting Member...

Just so you know if any of you bought Perfect Auto Finish from Gary on the other forum, that was Poorboys Ex-P, he said he repackaged the best products he could find with his name on it. It is super easy to put on, and looks great, I just had water spots every time it rained, others have not mentioned having the problem. If you go to big car show you will find lots of small companies, selling exactly the same stuff with different names on it, and maybe even in different colors. Large chemical manufacturing plants don't come cheap, I am sure that Poorboys and most likely Zaino are made in one of the big name plants to there specs. My advice is do your own research, checkout the Autogeek.net forum and buy a quality product, not the stuff the sell in auto parts stores. I have used Klasse and it leaves a really hard shine that lasts a long time, it is also an acrylic sealant (same thing clear coat is made of) but is not as shiny as carnuba. Liquid Glass is tuff as nails but, the shine is not as good as some others. Use a good cleaner/polish before you wax your car, it makes a world of difference.

Heres are some of those detailing picks that we took of chuckdocs and my car.  These pics were taken after using Poorboys world Black-Hole then the sealant EX.

LOL, atleast your honest.
Those Sol's looked so good I ordered my first buffer (Porter Cable 7424), and some Poorboy's. Now I just need some heavy duty shop lights so I can test it out while it's still in the garage!! Then I'll just have to wait till summer so I can "outshine" a couple of close friends and their Vettes.
