I claybar my RL at least once a year (in the spring) and sometimes in the fall (but not this year...too much going on with work).  I love the fact that I get to know my car as I clay it...and, unfortunately, find the dings that have appeared since the last time--that just washing may not lead me to.

It takes several hours for the whole process...wash, clay, wax--and I am sore the next day, but it is worth it!

Those 9" orbital buffers are worthless get a real buffer or go home, at a minimum a Porter Cable, if you have cohones mas grande get a Flex, you can read about them on Autogeek.net. The Porter Cable's start at about $130 plus pads. I have found that most people who love the Z stuff have been using products from the autoparts store. I order everything I use from the manufacturer or Autogeek.net. Meguires makes some great products, none of which can you buy in an auto parts store. They have a Pro line that is far superior. Chip Foose may like Mothers, but I don't. Take a look at Go-N Def's car or Dark Techs car, you will see what can be done with Poorboys and a Porter Cable. One or the other wins almost every car show they enter. I think Z-stuff is better than most anything you will find in a store but by no means is it the best.

I was trained by Darktech who was trained by the detail king himself  -- Go-n-def.  I actually enjoy keeping "time bandit" shiny.  I can not wait for spring so I can get out the buffer and go to work.  I do not work in the cold.

And I really have found nothing better than poorboys products.  I used to think McGuires was the best stuff but after poorboys.  No comparison.

When I was trained by Go-N-Def, I gained a lot of knowledge in car detailing that makes the car look so much better.  I have grown to discover that using a buffer is much easier than waxing by hand.  Poorboys is the product to use, I have used NUFinish, McGuires, turtlwax and many others but I can't find anything else that is easier to work with and more bang for you buck.

Will do.

BTW, its not considered a con if you make your son detail your car as payment for living in the house!  ;)

I'll do it for a small price.  (No rent for a month)

The dreaded Z word is also quite expensive for what you get.  Poorboys products will give you an equal or better shine for less money.  The porter cable is a great investment and really does make a difference if you use it correctly.  There is a small learning curve, but after you get the hang of it the results will be amazing.

Do NOT use any orbital buffer you get on sale at Target or Wal-Mart, those are straight crap.  Porter cable at a bare minimum.  I'm also with lilgoat and use autogeek.com  They have very good products at decent prices.

Here is a quick video demonstrating the difference between the 2 polishers:

I chose the option "I con other people to detail my car" because I didn't see the option for "Trade personal favors!"  ;). Am I allowed to say that here?

My hubby said it was one or the other... have my nails done every week or pay the detailer. I chose the later. Now I do my own nails and pay someone else to detail.  Fair trade in my opinion.

I don't know, let someone else detail your car?  They would have to be a Kappa owner or you should be getting your nails done!!!!

I have detailed many cars. Our little SOLs are soime of the toughest cars to detail. GM had to give us a super hard clear coat. It is extremely difficult to work with. I have never been happy with anything I have used. Remember, there are products out there that just cover up the scratches. They do not eliminate them. I am talking about eliminating.

Anyway, the products that I have used on other cars are Menzerna polishes and Swissvax wax. Soap of choice is Adams. My interior is all Einszett products. They work well together. For detail spray I am using "Gloss IT" spray. Tons of Microfiber towels. when the weather gets a bit warmer...I am going to try using "System One" polish and wax with my Makita Makita 9227C polisher on my GXP.

I bought and tried the System One, funny thing is it worked really well on my Harley, no so much on the Solstice. It didn't seem to do much of anything on the Solstice. The detail/wax is OK but the polish was not very agressive at all.
