Any Interest in Daytona?
« on: April 10, 2010, 11:59:42 AM »
Hello all. For those that haven't met me, I live in Daytona. And my buddy that works at Crabby Joe's asked me to see if y'all would want to have a meet there. He recently joined a forum for his new Camaro and realized the potential for business from 'meet and greet' type settings. So. He and I wanted to know if there was any interest for a visit to Daytona Beach for a beach ride/day. Crabby Joe's is on the Sunset Pier and sits out over the ocean. There's also fishing on the pier if you're interested, and I've landed a few good redfish and triple tail, so its halfway decent
I'm also trying to find a halfway decent Dyno place around here, and maybe make a deal for a Dyno day also.
So they day would run as: Beach, some of the best seafood around here at Crabby Joe's, more beach/beach drive, then possibly a dyno? Maybe relaxing at one of the hotel pools? Bring the wife, make it a weekend thing?  :idk:

And I know Daytona is way out of the way for most, and Orlando or Tampa is a better location, and I know we all have the beach (not any awesome vendors like JPM  :D ), but I'd figure I'd ask anyways. Let me know what you guys think.

Yet another theory is that the term derives from an Elizabethan word used to describe braggarts. The original root of this is the Middle English word crack meaning "entertaining conversation" (one may be said to "crack" a joke); this term and the alternate spelling craic are still in use in Ireland, Scotland and Northern England. It is documented in Shakespeare's King John (1595): "What cracker is this same that deafs our ears with this abundance of superfluous breath?"

Frankly my dear (wow, could Clark Gable turn a phrase), in Florida a cracker is a person whose family was probably there before Florida became a state (1845) and who herded cows for a living. At that time the word cracker was derived from the cracking of a whip over the cattle's head to get them to do what you wanted. Florida produced more cattle for the CSA then any other state, including Texas. I'm proud to say that my family comes from crackers that settled here as early as 1800, long before Florida became part of the USA.
As far as your explanation, since my family is Scots-Irish also it only makes sense that the 2 are intertwined. :D

Interesting explanation. I'm not sure my family was there before 1845. But they were just a little north of there.

My family arrived in Texas around 1756 and my parents moved to Maryland 4 years before I was born.  My 3 older brothers love to remind me

I'm sure. I was actually born in Germany (army brat), however the family has been here in the south since before the pilgrims arrived in 1620. Came into Virginia in 1612, been moving south ever since.

SMartin, mine were mostly south Georgia people before moving to Florida.

That doesn't explain as much about me as it does my ancestors. I'm a Floridian Virginian! :D
