I live in Basking Ridge, NJ and just purchased Don Sambrook's complete vibration/acoustic deadening system. I think it will work great!

My problem is that I am not 100% confident pulling the whole car apart to install the stuff, and I don't have the time to invest to do it right.

SO... Is there anyone in the central NJ area (or even PA, DE, NY area) who has experience with this process and wants to come over and spend a few days meticulously applying the Don Sambrook supplied material?

I would want proof that you did your own (or someone else's) install, confirmation from Don that you made a system purchase from him, and I would prefer you brought your car with you to show me.

I would be willing to pay well for a job well done, with no damage during the process and the complete system applied correctly by experienced hands.

It's an opportunity for one of you guys to make a quick buck doing what you love doing.

No room or board offered. Just to be clear.  :)

Thanks!

Matt,
It is a two day - 2 man job, just to do the interior of the cabin.  It requires the entire interior be removed including the dash.  Everyone I have seen done, including the first which is the only one Don did with the owner took that long.

:agree:  - it's a two day (more or less, or one realllly looooooong day) job, though I don't think it wouldn't need two men if the person doing it has experience.  Treeman just did it (mostly) by himself.

But, Mattnshilp,  I do think that you need to belly up for a place to sleep and food for anyone who ante's up to come help (unless you're paying full mechanic shop rates).

MattnShlip,

I am a bit out of reach in San Diego, but I can tell you if I were to do this job "for hire" within your specifications, you are looking at a minimum 24 hours of labor at 80-100 bucks per hour.  It is that much work.  There are so many little things that can go wrong, break a clip, snap a pin etc... you basically have to pull the entire interior and part of the exterior (doors) off and then reassemble.  Success is realistic, but it takes time.  Lots of time.

What I'm saying is:  You fly me and Jimmybaja (both experienced in installation, but not purhcase for our own vehicles) to you and pay going rates, you may have a deal.

It's something that is best done at a Mod Meet type setting.  I live in central NJ as well and am planning on this over the summer.  I have ripped apart my car at least 5 times and know how to install the sound deadner.  (Look at my stereo install link in my sig)  If you offered me $500 to do your interior I would turn you down, it's crazy time consuming.  Getting a bunch of people together and all doing the same thing is the way to go.  You can assembly line the process.  1 Person cut out the pieces and 1 or 2 others doing the actual install.  There are parts where you need an extra set of hands to hold stuff or check for clearances and trim.  Having someone along that knows how to get the parts out and back together is the key.  If I can find space I may offer up a sound deadner meet up to make things easier.  Good luck with your install.

Just shows the need to understand fully ANY mod your thinking about doing and what it will take to accomplish as well as the benefits and difficulty of that mod.  In short this mod sounds great but unless you are comfortable with tearing into your car and have the time to do it correctly be perpared to pay $$ to have it done correctly.  I'm sure this thread will be a eye opener for those that were thinking about doing this mod and they might think twice before purchasing the kit.  Hope Mattnshilp figues out what he needs to get the job accomplished.

Everything to do with a Kappa, starting with buying a car with a teeny trunk, limited interior, etc. must be done with your eyes wide open.  Especially flying down the road and having a ball.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

While I would like to do this too, I can vouch for what these guys are saying.  And this comes from a guy who struggled for hours to put in an intercooler. :)

I did mine at the mod meet about 6 months ago...and it is definitely a two day-two person job.  It's either a job that should be done at the mod meet, or one that you can do slowly over a week with the car garaged.  The entire interior comes out, and many electrical things get unplugged and disconnected.  It is not a job that I would do alone.  I did the trunk alone, but that was fairly simple...the interior is another story...well worth it in the end, but not easy by any means.  At a mod meet, people are there to assist...I would help out at a meet, but not do the job alone.  I dont think many would feel comfortable doing it alone, especially having to remove the interior.

My advice is to either slowly work on it in your garage over a weeks time and help from this forum (there's a write up on the install somewhere on here) or wait until Joe's next mod meet and drive to MD like a few of us did and do it there with help from others.  Treeman did it this weekend at the meet and I am sure he will tell you the PIA that this job is.  We learned at the last mod meet LOL.

The boomarang,  So you can get the bottom panel out so you can get the under the dash panel out, so you can get the kick panels out, so you can pull the carpet from the center tunnel and floorboards.  If there is another way no one showed me that light.

Your dash was out  and up in the JPM shed.  I think you're confusing the two

Didn't take my dash out for this, and if you look at the install instructions thread, they don't there either.

I would have given Treeman more help than just answering questions & pointing a few things out but I just didn't have it in me to start another one in the same day.

I never took the dash out and had no issues getting the kick panels , carpeting etc. out and back in.  Sorry Critterman, think you added a step that wasn't necessary. Regardless its still a big job.

I did not.  I did pull it up at the bottom and slid the sheets covering the floor underneath so that the edges overlapped.

The reason the bottom of the dash needed to come out was to check the tunnel and around the shifter.  You must remove the lower dash and stereo to get to some of the places.  It is not a "must do" by any means, but thats why it was apart.
