Hey GJ,
I now cannot make the 26th cruise.  I sent the kiddos to VA last week to visit family so now the wife wants just the two of us to go on a little trip to Hearst Castle.  Now I'm thinking I should have sent the wife with the kids :)  I'll make the next one...

Markrat, I've done Hearst Castle a few times in the GXP. I've always felt that the Kappa was designed for PCH. It's a beautiful getaway spot. FYI: Just a few miles south of San Simeon, is Cambria. There's a sea side road called Moonstone Drive with many very nice, very romantic little inn's & B&B's. It's a great place to take the wife. My favorites are the Fog Catcher, and Sea Otter Inn. There's also the best wine tasting in the central coast along hwy 46 between Cambria and Paso Robles. I guess that I'm just partial, but this is one of my favorite places on earth.  :2c:

Thanks for the info.  Never been there so it's nice to get a little insight before heading that way.

I was stationed at a Radar Site at Cambria back in the mid 50s. It was just a wide place in the road. The Hearst family gave us( the Air force personell) a tour of the Castle every year. They let us see parts that are now not seen by the public. They told us quite a bit of insider Gossip about some of the rich and famous who stayed there. I owned a little Indian Scout motorcycle. There are some good roads in that area. All the way from San Louis Obispo thru Morro Bay, Cayucas, Cambria, San Simeon and on North. They used to have an antique car run thru there everything from Stanely Steamers to Model As. Probably 75 or 100 of them. I would spend all day riding up and down the line looking and talking.

Markrat,

My Misses and I did the HC and the PCH.  We were heading south from Monterey.  It is really amazing and the others are right, the towns in and around are really nice.  Book in advance.  We ran in to a stupid bicycle race and all the hotel rooms were booked.  It sucked.

Anyway, have a great time.  We will get out on a run soon!
