SoPac Divisional - June 26-27

I'm thinking about making the trip from AZ to this event.  Any other kappas planning on going?

Still debating if I should run on my *specs which are just about dead or invest in some used r-comps and get destroyed by Evos...thoughts?

What a weekend so far...

Driving from Phoenix into LA is stupid.  I got off on the wrong freeway and had to backtrack 25 miles.  Then I was looking for an ATM because of the toll roads I had to take and the first TWO I found were out of order.  Then I get to the airfields for a test n tune to try out my R-comps for the first time...I start to take my stockers off and one of the lugs is coming off tough when all of a sudden it SHEARS OFF HALF THE WHEEL STUD.   :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Luckily for me, I have a spare one.  I got everything torn apart, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to get the halfshaft out of the rotor to bang out the studs.  So I patched it back together and tried to just screw on a lug a little bit to make it through tech, which I did.  To unwind, I wanted to just get some In-N-Out and hit the beach for sunset.  It took me 2 hours to find a damn beach...you'd think it would be easy enough to just look at the sun and go that way, but the roads in Irvine are all snakey and weren't taking me where I wanted to go.  Left my hotel at 7pm, got home at 11pm.  Ridiculous.

Wake up this morning and head to the event.  Once I get there, I realize I left my cam in the hotel room.  Then I go look at the entry list and its gone from 3 to 5...a rich guy (the inventor of light-up ice cubes) decided he wanted to leave his race car at home and instead bring his Cayman S.  Ugh.

So the class is made up of me, the Cayman S, a '90 C4 Vette, and an Evo X.  I'm thinking I'm going to get slaughtered because I've never run on R-comps and the course was REALLY open with tons of sweepers but few elements to let the Sky shine.  I ended up finishing 3rd by 1.8 seconds!!!  That freaking Cayman is ridiculous...however his tires look like they are about ready to cord, so maybe they go out there and suck it up tomorrow so I can grab a new set of Hoosiers :)

In the meantime, I want to thank SOB for referring me to John Berget tires for these Hoosiers I got.  After the shipping mixup, I'm so amazed at how well these things grip the asphalt.

Videos will be coming tomorrow...

I have my VZW navigator which works well....when your phone isn't dead

So yesterday was a quicker course due to a shortened finish section.  My fastest time was 88.681 which was fast enough to pwn an Evo X but not fast enough to beat two guys codriving a Porsche Cayman S...That thing was balls fast.  Maybe if I didn't have a crappy automatic transmission and didn't blow the exit to the last final sweeper (you can see me shake my head in disgust) it would have been a closer finish.  Now off to buy new wheel studs so I don't have to worry about it again!!

Wow, video is so nice, is like sitting in your passenger seats without Gs forces, loved it.
Is nice with automatic you have to focus on steering wheel and pedals only ;)

Instead of focusing on shifting, I'm focusing on how my torque converter takes FOREVER to get on the power.  :(  Had I known of the world of autocross before I bought the car, I would have got a stick.

Vanguard,

Do you drive in I?  It looks like you could stay in second gear for the whole course, and it's got some of the longer straights I have seen in AutoX.  Comp. mode, in I should keep you in 2nd the whole time.  It may also help to have the TCM tuned.  I don't think there is going to be much difference with auto and stick for most auto X courses once you are in second gear, you just stay there.  Could be wrong... (auto X virgin)... but I watch all the videos!  Including BenL in his hypercar.  He gets to second and stays there.
