SO ......................... using THAT formula, if I pull the engine OUT of the car, it would be the same as FIVE HUNDRED FIFTY HP.

Actually, I am aiming for 2900 pounds with 1/4 tank in race trim. The battery will bring the car to ~2940.

I'm thinkin this is a must do to offset some of the weight added to the front by the SC & the majority of that weight was added to that side. I think about 75-80 lbs was tacked on from the whole SC kit.

Going one step further if you convert the $140 to Pounds Sterling you get 92.13GBP and 92/10 is equal to a 9.2HP gain as well.  So you see the more you lighten the wallet the bigger the gains are no mater what snake oil you might end up buying.

Bix's battery is on it's last legs feb 06 build.  Time to replace.  But since I don't seem to be worried about weight (car's or my own) (beat you to it SA) I'm probably going with an optima

I'm going to try the Motor cycle battery path (instead of brail). we've used them in other cars with out issues.

Also, my car was at the Peru tour (i was not :( ) and it was scaled at 2750 lbs. still have to do the battery, passenger seat and steering wheel. Hopefully the scales were reading right, but from what i heard they were.

I would guess (actually, pretty sure) that 2850 is obtainable, but without either carbon fiber trunk and hood, I can't imagine where that much weight can be taken out of a turbo Kappa.

SOB,

Wouldn't gutting the interior gain at least another 100 pounds?  Passenger seat, gone, carpet, radio, door panels, windows (replaced with plastic if needed for racing) speakers, etc...  I would think that would be well over 100 pounds.  HOWEVER I have no idea what "B" street prepared means, but that is how Dr. Jones' car is prepared.  Of course, now that I think about it, you have mentioned BSP before as your racing class as well right?

Anyway, I was just thinking how to lose 100 more pounds.

ALL sound deadening and trim must be in place. Seats MAY be replaced, A/C removed, etc. But, 250 pounds off a 3000 pound car is tough in SP.

There's lots of little things that can add up.
For one, making sure your washer fluid is empty.

True. But at 2940, I can't see where another 200 pounds is, even if I tore out the A/C system. I can see 2850 +/- a bit, but 2750?

You're allowed to remove the stereo and onstar stuff, right? That would probably total what, 30 lbs or so all said and done? Any other little things that can be lost?

i don't understand why your car is so "heavy" with the changes you've done already.  i was sub-2920 @ wendover in BS trim, w/ a quarter tank of gas, and i have a/c, leather seats and a factory sub.  when i ran the weight numbers on a future BSP build, sub-2800 seemed easily do-able.  odd.

seats (-50)
flywheel (-15)
clutch (-5)
2-piece brakes (-20)
swiss cheese rotors (-10)
battery (-25)
a/c delete (-30)
stereo/sub delete (-15)
steering wheel (-5)
wheels/tires (+20)
cat delete (-5)
alternator (-5)
= 2920-165 = 2755

and that's without getting crazy with titanium exhaust-related components.  with alex's current weight, i might have been conservative with some of my numbers it seems.

It may be that there is a 50-75 pound difference in weight. I know that the Sky fenders are about 6# each where the Sol's are thin sheet metal. Other things, I don't know. That said, some of your estimates are off. I have already weighed the stock seats and each Kirkey will save about 15 pounds, as the stock seats are quite light. And how are you figuring -5 pounds for an alternator? I assume you meant MINUS 20 on the wheels as the CCWs are 315s are only a couple pounds each more than the OZs and 295s, which puts them 8-9 pounds each less than OEM. That said, if a Sol GXP is starting sub-2950, that is helpful. The invoice on my car shows 2970 as a shipping weight. I still have the Region's scales, so I will recheck my car after I install the little battery. Fidanza and Spec will happen over the winter. A/C will stay in. I AM going to jerk the radio and sub to weigh them.

Now, if I could dump 20-30 pounds off my fat ass, well ......................................

yeah, those estimates are just that; eyeballing the seats i figured close to 50lbs each, so much for eyeballing, lol.  those loss/gain figures were based on my current setup, so i did actually mean +20 for the wheels/tires >>> SSR's are 18.4 and 295 A6's are 24, while i figure the CCW's would be 21 and the 315 A6's 27, so that's a little over 20lbs gained on all 4 corners.  figured there's got to be a lightweight alternator i could bolt in that would save weight too.

3 weeks of running has hopefully put me on track to reduce fully loaded weight, too :D

I lost 20 lbs in each seat with NRG fixed back seat from *bay. Another 20 lbs replacing the Walmart battery with a Braile 15 pounder.

Have you lifted a wiring harness in a modern day car? They are really heavy.
