Bought 2004 2500 HD 4X4 Extend Cab for 12K
« on: July 26, 2010, 11:42:01 AM »
I'm looking at purchasing a used truck in Monsey, NY but since it's a 6 hour drive, I don't want to go up there and pick it up without having someone close check it over.

Do you know of a reliable mechanic/shop near by so when I make the trip I can take it to get checked.

Reliable Auto of Monsey is the dealer.  I don't trust any dealers so any help would be appreciated.    If you want to know which vehicle I'm looking at, PM me.

I helped Reed out by having someone look at a car in NC for him. Maybe he would do the same for you. Tell him smartin sent you. ;)

It's the Gray 2500 HD truck.  They're selling it for $6,295.  It may be moot point as I got an email from them that they have a deposit on it already.

Joe, I will gladly go and look for you but I thought you wanted someone mechanical to look at it. If it's still available and you want I can go take some pics for you and make sure it is in decent condition. However, I think Morfious or Kenny may be closer than we are.

Let me know if you need me to go because I can always drag either Reed or Spiky (or both) along... field trip!

Now that is funny, I looked through their selection after I posted, and that was the only one I opened up and took a close look at.

No, it sold.  I'm checking other trucks around the country now.  I don't want to spend more than 12k and get a 2002-up 2500 HD 4x4

Thanks Hammer, forgot to mention extended cab or crew cab.

Is the duramax diesel 6.6 a good motor and what is the MPG on the diesels.   The other is pretty crappy.

Most of the diesels are excellent motors and the only way you will get some sort of decent (16-18 mpg) out of a heady duty,  Plus you can do so much with a tune to a diesel :). The same truck in a gas motor will get you about 12.

The newer the truck is the better the milage, the new super duty Ford diesel 6.8 I think it is, uses cow pee to remove heavy pollutants and gets over 20 mph, and it has lots of power from the factory

Don't boo hoo the 6.0 gas engine. Diesel is the cost of premium, the 6.0 pulls like a freight train, and gets very good mileage.

Nice looking truck!  Can't wait to see the results after the PB treatment!  You may want to turn around and sell it for 15K and then go buy another one.
