Gymkhana fail...
« on: August 14, 2010, 06:39:17 PM »
Had some fun today at a gymkhana event, basically a very open autocross course. Had 6 practice runs to get used to the course and one hail mary timed run at the end. In my practice runs i tried to push it really hard to get the car sideways, but Ken Block i am not  :D

As for my timed run, it went well...

I thought Gymkhana was supposed to be way tighter than A/X, to the point where Ken Block-style drifts are required to get around some of the corners.

Either way, nice work, and congrats on the win.

The amount of people that can pull that off are slim to none, having a big open course with very little cones gives everybody an easy chance to experiment. Although since this was a timed event people weren't really doing that in the timed run.

what kind of tires do you have??

Hoosier a6's, not exactly good for drifting at all.

Good job Shabby, since it appeared you had understeer on your fun run, try running the a6 tires on the front and street tires on the back. You may improve your drifting and certainly make more tire smoke

Now that would be interesting,  the gs-d3's would probably be spinning through out the whole run.

I wasn't expecting the sidewall to flex that much, but i guess with 8" rims and 295 rubber what do you expect.

Congratulations on your win.
Thanks LV, winning that plaque made all the fail worth it, so much better than the typical ones you get.

Here's a vid from today's autocross, it was the last of the provincial events with some stiffer competition. Im surprised they made the stopbox they way they did, everyone was going sideways through it :D
I managed to get 5th overall and 2nd in my class behind an sti, not too shabby.

Beat this around the cones:

Mini coopers were amazing.  That sounds supercharged too.  And I love the brake stand at the end.  a testament to how light that car is.  I had a Cooper S JCW and it was a blast (front W drive unfortuantely) but not great for long trips.  Dumped that a few cars before the Kappa.

We are a Cooper s and Kappa home.
The Cooper is cool in it's own way.
I'd love to own an original.

Funny but true story.   On one of our trips to England we are running around the "b" roads and come to a stop bar.  We see an original mini come around the corner on it's 10" wheels and the driver is wearing a full face helmet.  he is probably doing all of 30-35 miles an hour.  To this day I wonder if he thought it was a short bus?
