OK, it seems like BS to me, but it kinda makes sense also....
are these products any good for any reason?
it seems to me that they are good only for "bad and kitsch tuning", but, as i said before, it looks reasonable to me. these are fans that go into the intake and theoritically increase flow speed.

any opinions?

There is some evidence that they act like a turbo. No reason to think it is any different as far as the engine is concerned.

no air filter may be a reason for concern though.

What you need to know is how much air is that fan pumping through it (volume, measure in CFM, cubic feet per minute or the metric equivalent)?  The only way it will help is if it has more volume than your engine normally draws in.  If the fan has less volume than the engine draws, the fan blades will act as a restriction reducing the amount of air available to the engine and your performance will suffer.
