Milwaukee mile Raceway Labor Day--- Crash!!!! My poor Gxp
« on: September 12, 2010, 05:43:56 PM »
Labor day @ milwaukee mile ,a beautiful Nascar track with in field road racing course. At turn one you come off the banked oval into a fun road course then out back onto the oval at turn one and run the whole oval. It was raining pretty hard all morning  during practice and looked like it would be raining that afternoon for the time attack. So I said lets practice like this is the race . Only 52 cars showed up for the event, I normally run practice group 3.  Group 1 the fastest cars and group 9 the the slowest. Landed up first practice session running against group 2 cars and blew past them like they were standing still ,next practice session ran against group 1 cars and blew past all of them. It was so much fun drifting the car on the banked oval right up to the outer wall, remember its raining pretty hard and the car was handling very well. On my last practice lap on the infield course I new I could not take the 180 degree hairpin turn any faster but felt I could take the S turn before it faster which I did with great success. Braking for the 180 turn ,I could not slow down, it was like black ice, and broad sided a reinforced chain link fence after spinning out About $3600 worth of damage. Currently all of the passenger side of car is off . Looks like a dune buggy with my roll bar. Front custom nose and wind splitter also damaged Car will be ready to race in 4 days Next race is in 6 days at Blackhawk Raceway near Rockford Illinois

Any race you can walk away from it a good race. Good luck getting everything fixed up, have there been any issues finding parts?

Thanks Guys, Insurance doesn't cover this but my credit card does! I had a great time. All of the side of car is in paint shop including custom front nose. Fabrication of 11 gauge stainless steel wind splitter finished and being powder coated. Car will be complete this Thursday and will look brand new and ready to race. They actually had to use a tow truck to pull me out of the fence. The following day I had to take some Vicodin for back pain[muscle spasms] which has cleared. I do not want pictures of my car wrecked -Sorry.  My 6 point harness really kept me in my seat, also was wearing Hans device. Lucked out with no major structual problems. Many thanks to Erickson Chevrolet body shop , Chassis Concepts Custom Race cars and HiTech Signs for getting the car done in 8 working days. P.S Did you know the body panels are cemented/glued on our cars.

Greywolf, I am impresssed with your grit and determination!  Again, just glad it all worked out and yes you are so correct, the six piece harness certainly did it's job and kept you safe and in your seat.  You are indeed a true trooper.  Good luck in the future events.

Repairs are 100% complete and car is ready to race. Looks brand new. The guys at the body shop really got into working with a dead line like you see on those  TV shows.  Bought the shop lunch to show my thanks! Car is loaded on the trailor.  Bad news , it might rain on Saturday, headed to Black Hawk Farms Raceway near Illinois/Wisconsin boarder , fun track to drive with a occasional caution flag for deer crossing. I am not kidding

I had a chance to walk the track a few years ago, and I was amazed how narrow it was in places and very rough pavement in other places.  I hope it all works out for you there.

I've heard if you crash at the track, if you can limp it onto the road and crash again into something, call the cops, call your insurance and pray you don't get caught :)
